Geronimo Meets Sophie The Wonder Dog.

Our Furry Friend Geronimo,

Had been to get some shopping,

Jane wanted him back soon and so,

There was no time for stopping.

"Oh goodness me!" he panted,

"This is such a heavy load,

And now I’ve got to lug it,

Right up the blinking road"

When Teddy reached the crossing,

He muttered "Oh hooray,

I can have a little breather,

It’s the first I’ve had today."

However when the light went red,

So very shocked was he,

Because he spotted someone,

Who sadly couldn’t see.

The little Bear went up to him,

And giggled "Hello mate,

I’ll help you to the other side,

Before it is too late."

"Oh thank you!" smiled the blind man,

"But I am quite okay,

Because my good friend Sophie,

Will guide me on my way!"

"She’s been through months of training,

And knows her way around,

So all the time she’s with me,

I know I’m safe and sound.

On occasions such as this one,

She comes in very handy,

But thank you for your offer,

And by the way I’m Andy."

Geronimo looked on the ground,

And saw that it was true,

"She’s wonderful," he chuckled,

"Oh lucky, lucky you."

As he bent down to stroke her,

There was a sudden beep,

"Come on girl," ordered Andy,

"Or we’ll be in trouble deep!"

Sophie pricked her little ears up,

And then what do you think?

She led him right across the road,

And didn’t even blink!

"Good heavens!" thought the little Bear,

"Her talents never end,

Now I understand the reason,

Why the dog is man’s best friend."

Feeling ever so much better,

He continued up the street,

Knowing better than to quibble,

About his aching feet.

He smiled "That special meeting,

Has done so much for me,

Now I’ll never take for granted,

The fact that I can see!"

Our Hero headed homewards,

With a much, much clearer mind,

And since then he’s supported,

Clever Guide Dogs for the blind!
