Geronimo
Meets Willie Waddle
One Saturday, at half past eight,
Geronimo the Bear,
Was tucking into breakfast,
With time enough to spare.
"Fantastic" he sighed happily,
"Because there is no school,
I can laze around the house all day,
And play things nice and cool."
He looked down at the newspaper,
And then began to read,
Smiling; "Quiet relaxation,
That's exactly what I need".
But after just a little while,
He heard somebody quack,
"My home has been polluted,
So I cannot go back."
"My name is Willie Waddle,
I'm a harmless Mallard Duck,
But this situation's dire,
And I've really come unstuck!"
Our Furry Friend glanced upwards,
And saw that it was true,
A duck was right before him,
And he was filthy too.
"Oh you poor thing" cried Teddy,
"I see just what you mean,
But you've got no need to worry,
We'll soon have you nice and clean."
"I hope so" came the sad reply,
"It's horrible out there,
The river has been ruined,
Which is ever so unfair."
"Some human dumped an oil can,"
He went on to explain,
"I was hoping that it's not too late,
To put things right again.
My feathers were my pride and joy,
But now they are so grimy,
Have you got any bright ideas,
To stop me feeling slimy?"
"Too right I have!" Our Hero grinned,
"Leave everything to me,
There's no need to be nervous,
I've got a plan you see!"
Before Willie Waddle knew it,
He was sitting in a bath,
"I had my doubts!" he chuckled,
"But this is such a laugh!"

"You see," smiled our Geronimo,
"I said you'd be alright,
I'm about to wash your feathers,
So don't put up a fight!"
"Of course I won't!" his small chum
quacked,
"I'll do as I am told,
For after what has happened,
I still don't feel too bold!"
"Now do us both a favour,
And put on that big hose,
I won't even move a feather,
If the suds go up my nose!"
The little Bear smiled broadly,
And took his sound advice,
And in no time whatsoever,
The duck looked jolly nice!
"Fantastic," he laughed happily,
"I look so smart and clean,
But I still can't get over,
What a funny day it's been!"
"Me neither!" giggled Teddy,
As Willie splashed about,
"But time is getting on my friend,
You should be getting out!"
"How can I?" came the quick reply,
"The river's still polluted,
So I must find a brand new home,
To which I will be suited."
Our Hero looked straight down at him,
Then grinned from ear to ear,
"Oh that's all sorted out," he said,
"The pond is very near."
"It's in a prime location,
And the water's fresh and clean,
That's
why to take you down there,
I'm really,
rather keen!"
"Well go on
then," quacked Willie,
"What
are we waiting for?
I think I'll go
bananas,
If we hang around much
more!"
"Calm
down," laughed our Geronimo,
"I've
got to dry you first,
Then I'll take you
to the water's edge,
And let you do your
worst!"
In no time whatsoever,
The
duck was nice and dry,
So Teddy said
"Okay then,
It's time for you to
fly!"
They
headed for the local pond,
As quickly as
they could,
And when he saw his brand new
home,
Friend Willie felt so good.
As
he waddled down the grassy bank,
His tail
began to wiggle,
And when he dived into
the pond,
He gave the loudest giggle!
"It's
lovely here!" he chuckled
"I
reckon I might stay,
I'll always be so
happy,
That I called on you today!"
He
bid the kindly Bear goodbye,
Then went to
join his friends,
And on that very happy
note,
This little story ends.
THE
END.
