Geronimo
Goes Walkabout.
One lazy Sunday morning,
Geronimo went out,
Because it was the day of rest,
Few people were about.
As he wandered through the village.
He really felt contented,
And stopped to sniff the flowers,
Which were so sweetly scented.
In fact Bear felt so happy,
That he soon began to sing,
"There’s really nothing nicer,
Than a sunny day in spring.
Birds are singing in the treetops,
And everything is growing,
It really doesn’t matter,
That I don’t know where I’m going."
"Well lucky you!" piped up a voice,
"I’m stuck up here all day,
And haven’t got a special friend,
To ask me out to play.
It gets extremely lonely,
Of that please have no doubt,
Bur because of all the visitors,
I can’t go walkabout!"
"How very odd," thought Teddy,
"I just heard someone speak,
I must be overtired,
After such a busy week!"
But when he looked above his head,
He chuckled "Goodness me,
This has to be the strangest thing,
That I will ever see!"

A man made out of flowerpots,
Was sitting on the wall,
And when Our Hero laughed at him,
He didn’t mind at all.
He simply said "I’m Richard,
It’s so good that you came by,
We could have such fun together,
Convinced of that am I"
"Since coming here last Winter,
I’ve had a rotten deal,
Because I’ve always had to act,
As though I am not real.
Believe me, it’s been ages,
Since someone stopped to talk,
So I hope you will allow me,
To join you on your walk!"
Our furry Friend looked up at him.
Then grinned from ear to ear,
"Of course you can," he answered,
"That’s such a good idea."
Friend Richard was delighted,
And climbed down from the wall,
"Good heavens!" cried Geronimo,
"You’re very, very tall!"
"I realise that," came the reply,
"But you will be okay,
Why don’t we go exploring,
As it’s such a lovely day."
The chums marched up the cobbled streets,
And then what do you know?
They were followed by some ducklings,
All waddling in a row!
"Good heavens!" cried the startled
Bear,
"What are they doing here?
I wish someone would tell me,
As their motives aren’t too clear."
"Don’t worry," Richard giggled,
These are all mates of mine,
If we follow them all closely,
Then things will be just fine!"
Our Furry friend was doubtful,
But of course he didn’t say,
He just followed all the Ducklings,
As they waddled on their way.
In no time whatsoever,
They’d led him to a stream.
Little Bear was quite delighted,
And gave the broadest beam.
"The clever things!" he giggled,
"They’re very, very knowing,
And although they’re only little,
They know just where they’re going."
"Of course they do," smiled Richard,
"I told you they were smart,
I knew that if you met them,
They’d quickly melt your heart"
When the ducklings were quite settled,
He sighed "We’ve had such fun.
But now the dawn is breaking,
So I think we’d better run."
Geronimo was most upset,
He sighed "Oh what a shame,
This morning’s been fantastic,
And I’m jolly glad I came!"
"Me too," replied the smiling man,
"But please don’t be too sad,
Because to do this all again,
Would make me jolly glad.
You make a super playmate,
Even though you’re only small,"
And with a very crafty wink,
He climbed back on the wall!
"Oh goodness," grinned the little
Bear,
"I’m happy as can be,
Because the most outrageous things,
Keep happening to me!"
THE END.
