Geronimo And The Tent.
The
flowers had awoken,
And the
birds began to sing,
Geronimo felt happy,
Apart
from just one thing.
"I wish
I had a tent," he sighed,
"My
friends stay out all night,
And
have such big adventures,
Beneath
the stars so bright!"
"They
often count the moonbeams,
And
know the moles by name,
But I
don't have these pleasures,
Which
is a dreadful shame!"
A
silent tear rolled down his cheek,
But Nan
gave him a cuddle,
And
smiled "Don't worry Darling,
We'll
soon sort out this muddle!"
"Let's
go out to the garden shed,
And see
what we can find,
It's
just like an Aladdin's cave,
Where
things are left behind!"
Our
Furry chum was doubtful,
But
took her sound advice,
"Okay,
you're on!" he murmured,
"Some
fresh air would be nice!"
The
garden shed was VERY full,
Of
tools of every sort,
"We'll
never find a tent in here"
The
grumpy Teddy thought!
"Come
on!" cried Nan "We've work to do,"
"Please
get down on those paws,
And
don't just stand there looking,
It's
time to do some chores!"
Bear
gave a little mumble,
But did
just as she said,
He
lifted many boxes,
Which
made his face go red!
When
the last one had been shifted,
Our
hero felt so smug,
"Thank
goodness Nan," he panted,
"There's nothing else to lug!"
The
kind old lady shook her head,
And
told him; "No, you're wrong,
That
canvas bag needs moving,
"It's
been there all along!"
"That's all I need!" groaned Teddy,
"But
I'd better take a look,
Because
if I am lazy,
You
won't let me off the hook!"
He
opened up the canvas bag,
And
yelled in sheer delight,
"I've
found a tent!" he shouted,
"Now
things will turn out right!"
"I
thought you would!" his Nan replied,
It's
been there for a while,
"You'll
have to help me set it up!"
She
added with a smile.
"Let's
grab the poles and tent pegs,
And
erect it straight away,
You've
been a great assistant,
It's
very fair to say!"
They
dashed out to the garden,
As
quickly as they could,
Quite
soon the Tent was standing up,
And
looking jolly good!
Geronimo was thrilled to bits,
And
danced around in glee,
He
shouted out; "Oh thank you Nan!
You're
REALLY good to me!"
The
sweet old lady kissed him;
And
answered; "That's alright,
I'll
just call Jane and ask her,
If you
can stay tonight!"
"Oh
will you?" asked our Furry Friend,
"That
would be so much fun,
At last
I'll have some stories,
To
share with everyone!"

That
night, when all the stars came out,
Bear
crept inside his tent,
And
smiled; "This is the nicest day,
That I
have ever spent!"
Nan
helped him in his sleeping bag,
And
zipped him up so tightly,
"I'll
see you in the morning then!"
She
told him very brightly.
"I'll
be okay!" laughed Teddy,
"I'm
big now after all,
This
garden holds no fear for me,
So I
will have a ball!"
"I hope
you do!" Nan chuckled,
As she
went inside once more,
"But
if, by chance you should get scared,
Just
knock upon the door!"
"I told
you I'll be fine!" scoffed Bear,
"There
can't be that much to it,
This
camping lark is simple,
And I'm
sure that I can do it!"
"I
really hope you're right!" smiled Nan,
"But
you should heed my warning,
For
now, sleep tight my little one,
And see
you in the morning!"
She
shut the door behind her,
And
left him all alone,
Our
Hero thought; "I'll show them all,
I'll
make it on my own!"
At
first things went extremely well,
A
friendly barn owl hooted,
And to
the hearty outdoor life,
He
seemed ideally suited!
Before
you could say "Camping"
The
happy little Bear,
Had
drifted off to dreamland,
Without
a single care!
But
after just a little while,
He
heard the sound of growling,
"What
rotten luck!" Our Hero Groaned,
"A
stray dog must be prowling!"
"Oh go
away!" he shouted,
"It is
the dead of night,
My
beauty sleep's been ruined,
And
that just can't be right!"
But
just as he had spoken,
A
croaking frog joined in,
"Are
you lot deaf?" cried Teddy,
"This
racket is a sin!"
He hid
beneath the covers,
But
even they got tangled,
"Oh DO
shut up!" he pleaded,
"My
nerves are really jangled."
But
then, without a warning,
A noisy
car backfired,
The
little Bear fell out of bed,
And all
his fur perspired!
He got
up very quickly,
And
then he gave a shout,
"Come
quickly Nan!" he bellowed,
"I make
a useless scout.
I keep
on hearing noises,
Which
take away my breath,
I'd
like to come inside once more,
Before
I'm scared to death!"
His
worried Nan came running out,
And
said; "You're safe now Dear,
The
animals won't hurt you,
While I
am standing near!"
She
took the Teddy in her arms,
And
carried him inside,
"I
tried my best," he murmured,
"But I
was petrified!"
"I
thought I was a big, strong Bear,
And
nothing could defeat me,
But
when I heard a croaking frog,
I
feared that he might eat me!"
"You
haven't been defeated",
The
kind old lady said,
"Forget
about your troubles,
And
come and share my bed!"
In the
twinkling of an eyelid,
He was
sleeping safe and sound,
For
things are so much better,
When
you've got a Nan around!
THE
END.
