Geronimo's Surprise.
Geronimo the little Bear,
Was
playing in the snow,
It was
very nearly Christmas,
Only
seven days to go!
He
jumped on his Toboggan,
And
began to slip and slide,
Laughing; "Watch out everybody!
I'm
coming for a ride!"
The
Teddy was ecstatic,
As a
small bridge he sped under,
He
cried; "This is fantastic,
What's
going on I wonder?"
But his
thoughts were interrupted,
By a
very noisy "Whoosh!"
"How
very odd!" gasped little Bear,
"There's no one here to push!"
The
Toboggan darted onwards,
Like a
speeding dodgem car,
Our
Hero laughed; "Slow down a bit,
And
tell me where you are!"
His
transport took no notice,
It
simply lost control,
"At
this rate," groaned our Furry Chum,
"We'll
end up down a hole!"
But
just as he had spoken,
They
hurried through a door,
"Watch
out!" replied a startled voice,
"You'll
ruin my clean floor!"
Geronimo glanced upwards,
And
then a gasp he gave,
Because
he had now landed,
In an
icy looking cave.
It was
shaped just like an igloo,
And the
walls were purest white,
But as
Bear took a closer look,
He
squealed in sheer delight.
There
were stools and there were tables,
And
spacious wooden shelves,
Were
some very tasty ice creams,
Were
sitting by themselves!
"An Ice
cream Bar?" cried Teddy,
"This
is better than I thought,
I
reckon I should stay right here,
And
show them some support!"
He went
to grab a choc ice,
But a
woman with a broom,
Saw
just what he was up to,
And ran
across the room.
"You've
got a cheek!" she shouted,
"At
first you run amock,
Then,
while I'm busy cleaning,
You
try to steal my stock!"
The
little Bear jumped back in fright,
He
cried; "I wasn't stealing,
But to
your better nature,
I am
humbly appealing!"
"I know
what this must look like,
But
I've had a rotten day,
An ice
cream and some sympathy,
Would
chase my fears away!"
He told
the angry woman,
About
the trip he'd had,
And how
the whole experience,
Had
left him feeling bad.
"Oh you
poor thing!" she answered,
"No
wonder you are shaken,
In
spite of all the things I said,
Some
steps must now be taken.
Sit
down for just a little while,
And
I'll make you a treat,
A honey
flavoured Cornet,
Which
is very nice to eat!"
"Oh
thank you!" squealed Geronimo,
"That's
exactly what I need,
For
your tummy rumbles louder,
When
you're travelling at speed!"
His
friend replied "I bet it does,
And
call me Margret please,
We
don't get many customers,
On
chilly days like these!"
Our
Furry Chum sat on a stool,
While
she piled his cornet high,
"Oh
wow!" he thought excitedly,
"A
lucky Bear am I!"
When
Margaret brought it over,
He
kissed her on the cheek,
And
smiled; "That looks delicious,
I might
stay here all week!"
"Don't
push your luck!" laughed Margret,
"I've
got to watch my prices,
And if
you were to to stay with me,
I'd
soon run out of ices!"
She
left the Teddy licking hard,
And set
to work once more,
But
soon a jolly stranger,
Came
walking through the door.
He wore
a Bright red jacket,
And his
beard was snowy white,
He
placed a special order,
Then
chuckled with delight!
"How's
business?" asked friend Margret,
"That
sack's about to burst,
It
isn't any wonder,
That
you work up such a thirst!"
"Oh I'm
okay," the man replied,
An ice
cream's all I'm after,"
And as
he sat down on a stool,
His
belly shook with laughter!
Geronimo watched closely,
Then
hissed "We've met I think,"
But his
beaming friend kept quiet,
And
simply gave a wink!
He
finished up his tasty snack,
And
left without a word,
"I'm
sure I know that chap," said Bear,
"Although it sounds absurd!"
"It's
possible!" laughed Margret,
"But as
it's getting late,
I think
you should be heading home,
My
Furry little Mate!"
Our
Hero sighed "Okay then,
But it
goes against the grain,
Those
ice creams were delicious,
So I
hope we meet again!"
"Me
too," replied friend Margret,
"Because I think you're cute,
And
when you're next tobogganing,
You
must pop in en route!"
THE END.
