Geronimo's Sports Day.
Geronimo the little Bear,
Once
climbed into his shorts,
And
headed for the nursery school,
To play
some super sports!
The
giant field was really full,
And
everyone lined up,
"We're
almost off," thought Teddy,
"I hope
I win the cup!"
There
was a moment's silence,
And a
wind began to blow,
Then
Mr. Gates, the teacher,
Shouted; "Ready, steady, GO!"
With
egg and spoon clutched in his paw,
Bear
ran with all his might,
And
standing on the touchline,
Jane
squealed in sheer delight.
Things
went extremely well at first,
But
then, disaster struck,
Geronimo the Teddy,
Ran
completely out of luck!
A
naughty little boy called Lee,
Ran
straight into his path,
And as
Bear lay upon the ground,
He gave
a wicked laugh!
"I've
won the race," he chuckled,
"And
I'm not even puffing,
While
you're a hopeless has been,
Who's
made from bits of stuffing!"
Our
furry friend was most upset,
His
limbs were VERY sore,
And
when he tried to right himself,
He
shook right to the core.
He
found a quiet corner,
And
wiped his crying eyes,
While
the thoughtless little bully,
Went up
to claim "His" prize.
"It's
just not fair," sighed Teddy,
"I
thought that we were chums,
He
really should apologise,
For
giving me the glums!"
But
when Lee reached the table,
Things
didn't go as planned,
He
thought the kindly teacher,
Would
shake him by the hand.
He
boasted; "I'm the winner Sir,
Please
can I have my cup?
But Mr
Gates replied; "Oh no,
Your
game is finally up!"
The
bully felt embarrassed,
His
face went very red,
"But I
was first to get here,
"Of
course I've won!" he said.
"You
haven't," snapped the teacher,
"Because I saw you cheat,
You ran
right in to teddy's path,
And
knocked him off his feet!
You
made him feel so helpless,
That he
walked away and cried,
So for
that very reason,
You've
been disqualified!"
The
naughty boy was really shocked,
He
seemed to grow quite small,
It very
quickly dawned on him,
He
wasn't tough at all!
"I'm
sorry Mr. Gates!" he wailed,
"I
meant to have some fun,
I
wanted to show people,
That I
was the brainy one!"
"You've
proved the very opposite,"
His
teacher told him sadly,
"It
isn't very bright at all,
To
treat your friends so badly."
"But
you have suffered quite enough,"
He went
on to explain,
"Go
over to Geronimo,
And put
things right again!"
So with
his head bowed really low,
Lee
went up to the Bear,
He
said; "I made you lose the race,
Which
really was unfair.
I'm
sorry for my actions,
And
want to put things right,
I can't
believe I was so cruel,
And
shall not sleep tonight!"
The
Teddy Bear was thoughtful,
And
scratched his furry head,
At last
a big grin crossed his face,
"Okay
you're on!" he said.
"We all
do horrid things at times,
But now
that you've seen sense,
To
carry on this argument,
Would
be extremely dense!"
Since
that very fateful afternoon,
Lee
bullies Bear no more,
And
life is so much nicer now,
Of that
you can be sure.
He's
learned a useful lesson,
To
everyone's relief,
Don't
be unkind to others,
Or you
will come to grief!
