The holidays had started,

It was time for making plans,

So Geronimo and little Jane,

Went down to Slapton Sands.

They spent the daytime hours,

Making castles on the beach,

For lots of pretty seashells,

Were all in easy reach.

By the time each day was over,

They were tired as can be,

And went off to the land of nod,

So very easily.

However on one fateful night.

As Bear lay in his bed,

Some rather spooky noises,

Buzzed right around his head!

A chilly wind was blowing,

And the door began to creak,

He grumbled "I will never find,

The peace of mind I seek.

If someone’s playing tricks on me,

That isn’t nice at all,

I really need my beauty sleep,

Because I’m only small."

But as he curled up once again,

And closed his little eyes,

The unsuspecting Teddy,

Got another big surprise!

He felt the strangest tickle,

On his very tiny nose,

This made him very angry,

And from his sleep he rose!

"For heaven’s sake!" he bellowed,

"I don’t know who you are,

But I am here to tell you,

That you’ve taken things too far.

That’s why when I catch up with you,

A tongue lashing you’ll get,

And scaring me out of my wits,

Is something you’ll regret!"

But his saucy late night visitor,

Just giggled "Hee, Hee Hee,

You do not stand the slightest chance,

Of ever catching me!"

Geronimo was livid,

"Oh yes I do!" he said,

But he then fell strangely silent,

As he looked above his bed.

A ghost sat on the headboard,

And was smiling down at him,

"Good heavens!" thought our Furry Friend,

"No wonder I felt grim!"

As he looked at his intruder,

His face went pale with fear,

Then at last her stammered nervously,

"What are you doing here!"

"Don’t panic," came the quick reply,

"I mean no harm at all,

The last thing I intended,

Was to scare someone so small.

In case you didn’t realise,

My name is Happy Jack,

I am the ghost of Slapton Sands,

So I cannot turn back!"

Geronimo watched spellbound,

As his crazy little mate,

Flew all around the bedroom,

And didn’t hesitate.

He squealed "Oh goodness gracious,

It seems you’re raving mad,

But in spite of my misgivings,

To know you I’m so glad!"

"Oh wonderful!" grinned Happy Jack,

"Most people say the same,

I hoped that you would be the sort,

To join me in a game!"

He flapped his wings in Teddy’s face,

And added with a laugh,

"That’s what I do to everyone,

Who tries to block my path!"

"That felt like a wet flannel!"

Exclaimed Our Furry Friend,

"But I love your crazy antics,

And hope they never end!"

The Ghost was quite delighted,

And smiled "I try my best,

But dawn is almost breaking,

So I should be heading west."

"But you’ve got no need to worry,

I’ll be back at twelve o’clock,

But now you know I’m harmless,

You won’t get such a shock!"

"I’d better not!" Bear giggled,

"You frightened me to death,

In fact it’s taken all this time,

For me to catch my breath!"

"Oh has it?" Jack grinned broadly,

"Then I haven’t lost my touch,

Tonight has been fantastic,

I’ve enjoyed it very much.

I’ll be back before you know it,

As I’ve lots more things to try,

Then he flew straight out the window,

And up into the sky!

Geronimo gasped "Golly,

What a wonderful surprise!"

Then feeling quite contented,

He closed his sleepy eyes.

THE END.
