Our little mate Geronimo,

Had tossed and turned all night,

A bad dream had disturbed him,

Which really wasn’t right.

By the time it got to morning,

He was snappy as can be,

And groaned "To all my problems,

An end I cannot see!"

"I keep on having nightmares,

And now I feel half dead,

But maybe if I take a walk,

I’ll find some peace instead!"

However when Bear went outside,

He heard somebody cry,

"I hope you’ll come and help me,

As in a fix am I!"

"My Christian name is Sarah,

And I’m a tiny sparrow,

But thanks to modern living,

My chances are quite narrow

All the gardens that I’ve been to,

Have got that awful decking,

The owners do not realise,

But my chances they are wrecking!"

"It covers up the insects,

Which I need to stay alive,

And if this trend continues,

My friends and I won’t thrive!"

The kindly Bear looked on the ground,

And saw that it was true,

The tiny bird looked up at him,

And she was crying too!

"Oh you poor thing!" he murmured,

"No wonder you’re upset,

Those DIY enthusiasts,

Can be extremely wet.

But as you’ve probably noticed,

This is a modest garden,

You can hunt around for insects,

And I will beg your pardon!"

"Oh would you?" chirped friend Sarah,

"That would be really kind,

Your wonderful suggestion,

Has eased my troubled mind."

In seconds she was hopping,

Around our Hero’s lawn,

And laughing "How fantastic,

It’s like I’ve been re-born!"

Geronimo looked at her,

And then grinned "Bless my soul,

I can’t believe your little beak,

Has dug that massive hole!"

"Not many can," smiled Sparrow,

"Things are working out a treat,

And these very tasty worms of yours,

Look good enough to eat."

"I might seem weak and feeble,

But that is not the case,

Especially now my worries,

Have vanished without trace!"

Then just as if to prove her point,

She swallowed a small worm,

While grinning "I feel better now,

And that I can confirm!"

As Sarah went on eating,

Bear giggled in delight,

"I really do admire,

Your massive appetite.

Ever since I was a baby,

I’ve thought that worms were weird,

Now thanks to your persistence,

They’ve all but disappeared!"

"My pleasure," said the tiny bird,

"I’m glad I helped you too,

Because that very tasty snack,

Has helped to see me through,

"In fact," she added quickly,

Her small eyes shining bright,

"It might be beneficial,

If I came back every night!"

Our Hero started laughing,

And then he tapped her beak,

"Oh honestly," he chuckled,

"You’ve got a blinking cheek!

But humans can be thoughtless,

And I’d like to make amends,

So next time you come calling,

Feel free to bring some friends!"

"Oh thanks a lot!" chirped Sarah,

"That’s a really good idea,

I’ll go straight back and tell them,

There are super pickings here!"

She soared right up into the sky,

And Bear was lost for words,

But since then he’s provided food,

For several hungry birds!

THE END.
