One morning after breakfast,

Geronimo the Bear,

Went out to the allotment,

To get a bit of air.

However when he got outside,

He shouted "Dear oh Dear,

Last night this place was normal,

Now there’s utter chaos here!"

"It seems as though a greedy thief,

Has come here overnight,

I’d really like to catch him,

Because this isn’t right."

Teddy walked around the garden,

But no humans could be seen,

"The beggar’s vanished now." He groaned,

"How could he be so mean."

"I planned to put my produce,

In this year’s county show,

Now I’ll never get my paws on,

The cup I wanted so."

Our Chum felt quite deflated,

Then someone caught his eye,

He yelled "You thieving scoundrel.

Oh my, oh my oh my!"

For standing right before him,

Was a very cheeky Rabbit,

It seemed that eating carrots,

Was his very favourite habit.

On seeing our Geronimo,

He lifted up his ears,

And squeaked "This is the nicest meal,

That I have had in years!"

"My Christian name is Rodney,

And all this lovely food,

Has really helped to put me,

In a very jolly mood."

The little Bear was still annoyed,

He snapped "I beg your pardon,

It’s still extremely naughty,

To go stealing from my garden."

"I know it is," squeaked Rodney,

With a tremble in his voice,

"But right now I am homeless,

So I didn’t have a choice.

When I was a small bunny,

A kind girl took me home,

But then when I got bigger,

She wouldn’t let me roam!"

"She said I would cause havoc,

And kept me in my hutch,

So as you can imagine,

I didn’t like that much.

This awful situation,

Drove me quickly up the pole,

So driven by pure boredom,

I gnawed a massive hole!"

"When this urgent task was over,

I was happy as can be,

And when I saw your vegetables,

I thought they were for me.

It really has been ages,

Since I had a good old nibble,

So please don’t chuck me out my friend,

This is no time to quibble!"

"Of course not!" cried kind Teddy,

"You’ve had such rotten luck,

And I hope your thoughtless owner,

Will quickly come unstuck.

The way she just ignored you,

Is quite beyond a joke,

But will you let me pick you up,

And give your fur a stroke?"

The rabbit squeaked "Go right ahead,

There’s nothing like a cuddle,

But as I haven’t got a home,

I’m still in such a muddle!"

Our Hero took him in his arms,

Then grinned from ear to ear,

"You could always use this garden,

It’s nice and cosy here."

"There are lots of open spaces,

In which you can run free,

And I’ve even got a wooden hutch,

That’s as comfy as can be."

I’ll keep you fed and watered,

And fuss you every day,

But if you pinch my produce,

I’ll send you on your way!"

"Okay then," chuckled Rodney,

"You’ve got yourself a deal,

Oh this is just fantastic,

And such happiness I feel"

Geronimo laughed loudly,

"I’m glad that’s sorted out,"

Then he put his new friend on the grass,

So he could run about!

The moral of this poem,

Is a very simple one,

Even fluffy little Rabbits,

Need to have a bit of fun.

So treat your pets with kindness,

And keep them safe and sound,

Or else like poor old Rodney,

They might not stick around!

THE END.
