Our clumsy pal Geronimo

Once had a nasty fall,

This meant a stay in hospital,

Which wasn’t nice at all.

But when he felt much better,

And his head was not so sore,

Nurse Karen smiled “I’ll walk you,

Right down the corridor.”

“After everything you’ve been through,

I think you’ve earned a treat,

And what I have to show you,

Is very, very, sweet,

“Oh brilliant,” Bear giggled,

“My paws are stiff you see,

So when they get some exercise,

So happy they will be!”

“I bet they will,” smiled Karen,

“But put this gown on first,

Then as soon as you are ready,

I’ll let you do your worst!”

“Hang on,” poor Teddy answered.

Wearing an enormous frown,

“As I’m no longer poorly,

There’s no need to wear a gown!”

“There is,” replied the kindly nurse,

“You’ll see why in a while,

Now just relax a little,

And I’ll dress you up in style!”

Our Hero was still doubtful,

But he did as he was told,

And when he saw his outfit,

He chuckled “I’ve struck gold!”

“I look like a real doctor,

In this flashy gown and mask,

And now I would be willing,

To do anything you ask!”

“That’s brilliant,” laughed Karen,

“You’ve brightened up my day,

But time is marching onwards,

So we should be on our way!”

In no time whatsoever,

They were in intensive care,

And Geronimo cried “Golly,

There’s a baby lying there.

She looks just like a dolly,

But what’s amazed me more,

Is that she is so tiny,

I could fit her in my paw!”

“That’s Angel,” his friend whispered,

“She weighed a pound at birth,

But she understands the value,

Of life and what it’s worth.

We very nearly lost her,

And yet she kept on fighting,

Now she is doing very well,

And that is so exciting.”

“Too right it is,” cried Teddy,

“She hasn’t got her wings,

But somehow she still manages,

To do amazing things.

In fact I’m really longing,

To take a closer peep,

I promise not to wake her,

As she really needs her sleep!”

“Okay,” smiled Karen broadly,

“But this must not take long,

Because when you’re this tiny,

Rest helps to make you strong.”

When they reached the incubator,

Where little Angel lay,

Our Hero whispered “Hi there,

I’ve come to say good day”

“I’ve heard so much about you,

So I had to come down here,

There is no doubt about it,

You’re the baby of the year.”

As soon as he had said this,

He had a big surprise,

Because the little baby,

Opened up her tiny eyes.

She looked at young Geronimo,

And then began to coo,

As if to say “Come on then,

I’d like to play with you!”

He put his paw right through the hole,

And then what do you think?

The little girl took hold of it,

Which left him tickled pink!

The fun and games continued,

Then she fell to sleep once more,

And so along with Karen,

He crept right out the door.

“You know,” he told her later,

“This place is not so bad,

And since I’ve met cute Angel,

I feel so very glad!”

The kind Nurse looked up at him,

And smiled “Most of us do,

But after all that’s happened

It’s off to bed with you.”

THE END.
