One morning our Geronimo,

Stood knocking on Nan’s door,

But he couldn’t get an answer,

Like he’d always done before.

In time he grew quite worried,

"How very odd," he said,

"She’s not the type of person,

To just lay there in her bed!"

"I think I’ll go around the back,

To see what I can find,

Because this unsolved mystery,

Keeps preying on my mind."

But when he reached the garden,

Bear had a big surprise,

The wonderful old woman,

Was right before his eyes.

"I’m glad you’re here," she giggled,

As I need a helping hand,

If you come a little closer,

I know you’ll understand!"

Our furry friend stepped forward,

To kiss her on the cheek,

But when he glanced upon the ground,

He gave a startled shriek!"

"Good gracious me!" he shouted,

"How that little crown has grown,

That Rhubarb is enormous,

You can’t lift it on your own."

"I know," replied Nan quickly,

"That’s why I’m glad you’re here,

I was hoping you could help me,

To pull it out my dear!"

"I’ll have a go!" smiled Teddy,

"But since I’m little too,

I’m very, very doubtful,

If we can see this through!"

But the very plucky lady,

Looked him firmly in the eye,

And said "Don’t be defeated,

We are giving this a try!"

"Okay then," smiled Geronimo,

"But I still think you’re crazy,

I’ve had a busy day today,

And fancied being lazy!"

"Well sadly that’s not possible,"

Nan told him with a grin,

"Because this is one battle,

That I intend to win!"

"Get on your paws this minute,

And help me pull it out,

This job is most important,

There’s no time to mess about!"

Our Chum was still uncertain,

But he did just as she said,

He began to pull the Rhubarb,

Until his face went red.

"It’s hopeless Nan!" he muttered,

"This blessed fruit won’t move,

I reckon we should leave it here,

If things do not improve!"

"That’s nonsense!" the old woman puffed,

"I want to make a pie,

So will you please stop whinging,

And give things one more try!"

The pair just kept on pulling,

Then Bear fell back with a start,

"Good gracious me!" he giggled,

"Be still my beating heart!"

The most enormous rhubarb,

Came tumbling out the ground,

It really was the biggest one,

That he had ever found!

"Good heavens!" his Nan chuckled,

In absolute delight,

"I think that as a gardener,

"Your future will be bright!"

"Oh thanks a lot!" smiled Teddy,

Puffing out his furry chest,

"I’m off to fetch the wheelbarrow,

I think that would be best!"

In minutes he was wheeling,

The gigantic fruit indoors,

And laughing "That was much too big,

To carry with my paws!"

The old woman smiled a lovely smile,

And answered "I agree,

Let’s go inside at once and make,

A Rhubarb pie for tea!"

THE END.
