Geronimo the little Bear,
Has got a brand new bike,
One day he went out riding,
With his next door neighbour Mike.
Friend Jane had told him firmly,
"Keep your helmet on your head,"
But as the two friends horsed around,
He took it off instead.

"I don't need this!" he shouted,
As they started to free wheel,
I look a just like a sissy,
And a proper twit I feel"
It isn't any wonder that,
I'm getting hot and flustered,
For in this sunshine yellow hat,
I must resemble custard!"

"You're spot on there!" Mike giggled,
"Girls have no sense at all,
Even when we're getting really big,
They treat us like we're small!"
The two friends took their helmets off,
As quickly as they could,
"Let's go for it!" they bellowed,
"Let's race around the wood!"

To start with things went very well,
And over stones they jumped,
"If Jane could see us now!" yelled Bear,
"I'm sure we'd both be thumped!"
But after just a little while,
The very naughty pair,
Reached a really busy junction,
Of which they weren't aware.

The two of them looked left, then right,
But Teddy hit a rock,
It knocked him off his precious bike,
And gave him such a shock!
His head was aching badly,
So he began to yelp,
"I think I've got concussion,
You'll have to get some help!"

Poor Mike was VERY worried,
As anyone would be,
But told his pal "Don't worry,
You can rely on me!"
As Teddy watched him leaving,
He groaned; "I hope he's right,
I'd hate to be stuck out here,
In the middle of the night!"

In record speed Mike reached Jane's house,
And yelled; "You must come quickly,
Your Bear has fallen off his bike,
And now he's feeling sickly!"
The little girl came running out,
As quickly as she could,
And with both their hearts a pounding,
They headed for the wood.

Geronimo was lying there,
His paws upon his head,
And when Friend Jane went up to him,
"I'm glad you're here" he said.
"I was a proper wally,
Not to keep my helmet on,
But my head is really throbbing,
How I wish the pain had gone!"

"I know that," sighed His kindly chum,
"And it makes me very sad,
But if you had kept your helmet on,
You wouldn't feel so bad!"
"It's there for your protection,
When you're riding on your bike,
And all the time you keep it on,
Disaster will not strike!"

"Oh please don't shout," begged Teddy,
"I've learned my lesson now,
So the last thing that we need to do,
Is have a blazing row.
I took my helmet off because,
I thought it looked uncool,
But next time we go riding,
I won't be such a fool!"

"I'm glad to hear it," smiled Friend Jane,
"Now come along you two,
I've planned a special teatime treat,
That's somewhat overdue!"
The friends all went off happily,
To gobble up some cakes
But now the very silly pair,
Have learned from their mistakes!

THE END.
