Geronimo
and the Lovely Lighthouse.
One evening our Geronimo,
Was walking by the sea,
The silver moon was shining,
It was peaceful as can be.
"It’s lovely here," he murmured,
"It’s been a stressful day,
But hopefully this late night stroll,
Will chase my cares away!"
He’d been walking for an hour,
When he had a big surprise,
The strangest house he’d ever seen,
Was right before his eyes.
Perched high upon the cliff top,
Was a house so tall and thin,
"How very strange," thought Teddy,
"I think I should go in!"
He walked into the building,
And then hurried up some stairs,
Not knowing that a special man,
Would catch him unawares.
However when he reached the top,
Somebody said "Hello,
Whatever are you doing here,
That’s what I’d like to know?"
The little Bear went ruby red,
And then let out a groan,
"When I walked in," he muttered,
"I thought I was alone.
I planned to have a nose around,
But now I know you’re here,
I’ll gladly do the decent thing,
And simply disappear!"
But as he headed for the door,
The man smiled "Don’t do that,
This job can get quite lonely,
So I’d love to have a chat.
For that very simple reason,
You’ll stick around I hope,
I might even let you look through,
My magic telescope!"
"My Christian name is Leon,"
He added with a wink,
"Do come and take at peek at this,
You’ll be impressed I think.
I normally see sailing ships,
Which are heading for the rocks,
But ever so occasionally,
You get more pleasant shocks!"
"Come over here this minute,
And you’ll see just what I mean,
This is the most amazing thing,
That I have ever seen!"
Our Hero rushed straight over,
And looked through the telescope,
Then he giggled "Oh how lovely,
I’m not seeing things I hope!"

For swimming in the ocean,
Was a mermaid dressed in blue,
Her hair was long and golden,
And she had a fish tail too.
As she waded through the water,
She wore the broadest smile,
Geronimo grinned "Golly,
I really like her style!"
"I bet you do," smiled Leon,
"She’s as pretty as can be,
And her friends all call her Maureen,
She’s the mother of the sea.
When everyone is sleeping,
She starts to exercise,
So it isn’t any wonder,
That she took you by surprise!"
"Just look at this!" laughed little
Bear,
"I thought she looked so fragile,
But when she’s in the water,
She’s very, very agile.
She’s gliding through the ocean,
With elegance and ease,
And stopping all those crafty crabs,
From doing as they please!"
"Whenever they get cheeky,
She just whacks them with her tail,
But then, she is so gorgeous,
She can never, ever fail!"
Friend Leon started laughing,
"That’s very, very true,
But I think you should get going,
As time’s catching up with you!"
Little bear was disappointed,
He groaned "Oh what a shame,
This place is quite amazing,
And I’m really glad I came!"
The lighthouse keeper giggled,
And answered "Is that right?
I reckon it was Maureen,
Who’s set your heart alight?"
Our Hero started blushing,
"Oh do shut up," he said,
"After all of this excitement,
I’m ready for my bed.
But tonight has been fantastic,
So I’ll see you again soon,
And with that he headed homeward,
By the pale light of the moon!
THE END.
