Geronimo
and the Lovely Lesson.
It
happened that Geronimo,
Was most
fed up one day,
Because he
had a problem,
Which just
wouldn’t go away.
“It’s
just not fair,” he grumbled,
“I
cannot do my sums,
And I’ve
become a laughing stock,
With all
my so called chums.”
“They
often point their fingers,
And tell
me I am thick,
Ever since
this nightmare started,
I’ve had
no end of stick!”
His wise
Nan gave a knowing smile,
And
answered “Poor old you,
But you
mustn’t look so worried,
As I know
just what to do.”
“Now
come with me,” she added,
“And sit
down at the table,
I promise
that we’ll sort this out,
As soon as
we are able!”
The little
Bear was doubtful,
And shook
his worried head,
But with
no other option,
He did
just as she said!
“Wait
here,” smiled the old woman,
“There’s
something that I need,”
And she
raced into the kitchen,
At almost
lightning speed.
She was
back again in minutes,
With a
chocolate bar in hand,
“What’s
going on?” asked Teddy,
“I do
not understand!”
“You
will,” Nan laughed so loudly,
“Be
patient and you’ll find,
That all
your present problems,
Will soon
be left behind.”
She took
the massive chocolate bar,
And cut it
into bits,
While
adding “When you’re teaching,
You have
to use your wits!”
Our furry
chum squealed “Golly,
They look
good enough to eat,
And if you
let me eat them now,
They’d
go down like a treat!”
The wise
old woman winked at him.
And then
replied “Not yet,
You’ve
got to learn a lesson,
That you
must not forget!”
She laid
ten chocolate pieces,
Upon the
wooden table,
And told
him “Now please count them out,
As soon as
you are able!”
Geronimo
leaned forward,
And
counted carefully,
At last he
got the answer right,
And
shouted out; “Yippee!”
Then much
to his frustration,
His Nan
took two away,
And smiled
“How many are there now?
I hope
that you can say!”
“Oh
gosh,” groaned Teddy loudly,
“I’m
hopeless at subtraction,
And when I
try to do it,
I get no
satisfaction!”
The kind old
woman hugged him,
And smiled
“Just try your best,
You’re
bound to feel much better,
When
you’ve got this off your chest!”
Our furry
friend leaned forward,
As slowly
as he could,
Then
counted out the pieces,
Just like
he said he would.
In time he
cried “I’ve got it!
The answer
must be eight,
I never
thought I’d say this,
But this
lesson’s really great!”
“It’s
funny that!” Nan giggled,
“I
thought you would approve,
There’s
nothing quite like chocolate,
To get you
on the move!”
Before you
could say tricky,
She’d
brought him up to speed,
And told
him “Well done darling,
You’ve
done very well indeed.
Now I know
the constant waiting,
Has been
driving you berserk,
But now at
last the time has come,
For you to
eat your work!
Geronimo
grinned broadly,
And
giggled “Oh okay,
I think
I’ve earned a picnic,
After all
I’ve done today!”
He took
hold of the chocolate,
And filled
his little face,
While
grinning “All my problems,
Have
vanished into space!”
“I was
no good at fractions,
But now I
think they’re cool,
So nobody
will tease me,
Next time
I go to school!”
“That’s
brilliant,” Nan giggled,
“I’m
thrilled as I can be,
But give
your grubby face a wash,
Before you
have your tea!”
THE END.
