At six o’clock one morning,

Geronimo the Bear,

Was visiting the land of nod,

And felt so happy there

But then quite unexpectedly,

A hooting sound he heard,

"Oh go away!" he muttered,

"This really is absurd!"

"In case you hadn’t noticed,

I was having a nice sleep,

So if you’re very wise indeed,

Your distance you should keep!"

Our chum rolled over on his side,

And snuggled down once more,

But the hooting sound continued,

Much louder than before.

"It’s six o’clock!" he murmured,

"You’ve had your bit of fun,

So go and wake up someone else,

Or damage will be done!"

But as he finished speaking,

Things got a whole lot worse,

There was an awful screeching sound,

Which made him swear and curse!

"You idiot!" cried Teddy,

"That really made me jump,

I hope you’ve got excuses,

As you’ve given me the hump."

He went over to the window,

And gave the biggest scowl,

Then upon the roof he noticed,

A frightened Tawny owl!"

"Good heavens!" gasped Geronimo,

"He shouldn’t be up there,

I’ll have to take some action,

To show him that I care!"

He threw the window open,

And called "Don’t worry mate,

I plan to get you down from there,

Before it is too late!"

He went to fetch a ladder,

And then he raced outside,

His feathered friend was most relieved,

"Oh good, you’re here!" he cried.

"My Christian name is Tony,"

He went on to explain,

"I’m lost and very frightened,

So please get me home again!"

Our Hero smiled "Don’t worry,

For now that you’ve been found,

I’m feeling pretty certain,

We’ll soon turn your life around."

"On thing puzzles me," he added,

"Why did you fly away?

Your wife will be quite frantic,

I think that’s fair to say!"

"I know she will," sighed Tony,

"But we had this silly row,

But like most stubborn fellas,

I so regret it now.

She said my non stop snoring,

Made all the branches shake,

And told me I should fly away,

For everybody’s sake!"

"I was angered very greatly,

So I took her at her word,

But then I soon discovered,

I’d been a silly bird!"

He started sniffing loudly,

And a tear rolled down his beak,

"I miss my Di," he blubbered,

"It’s been a rotten week!"

"I’ve come to the conclusion,

That no one can replace her,

But after storming out like that,

I don’t think I can face her!"

The kindly Bear looked up at him,

And giggled "Dear oh dear,

You really don’t know women mate,

That much is crystal clear!"

"I bet she’s on her perch right now,

Just missing you like mad.

And think that when she sees you,

She’ll be so relived and glad!

I’ll get you down this minute,

So you can put things right,

I’ve got a sneaky feeling,

That the future will be bright!"

"You think so?" the owl hooted,

"Then I wish you’d get me down,

Because I’ve paid a heavy price,

For acting like a clown!"

"You’ll be just fine," laughed Teddy,

"On that you have my word,"

With that he climbed the ladder,

And rescued the poor bird.

Friend Tony was delighted,

"Oh thanks a lot!" cried he,

"I’ve been extremely foolish,

But now you’ve set me free!"

"In future I’ll tell everyone,

You helped to save my life,"

"There’s no need" grinned Geronimo,

"Just go and see your wife!"

The tawny owl looked up at him,

Then quickly flew away,

And feeling quite contented,

Bear began a brand new day!

THE END.
