Geronimo had been at school,

For just about a year,

When he looked at Jane one morning,

And grinned from ear to ear.

"Since I’ve been at St Peter’s.

Quite confident I’ve grown,

So today I’d really like it,

If I walked there on my own."

The little girl was silent,

But then she said "Okay,

But promise to be careful,

As you’re going on your way.

I know you’re getting older,

But you’re still my precious Bear,

So I think you should remember,

It’s a dangerous world out there!"

"Don’t panic!" giggled Teddy,

"You’ve taught me very well,

Now I’ve got to get a move on,

Or else I’ll miss the bell!"

He kissed her quickly on the cheek,

Then hurried off to school,

Laughing "Ooh this is fantastic,

I’ve never felt so cool."

"When the teachers all discover,

The courageous thing I’ve done,

I’m sure to get a massive cheer,

From simply everyone!"

Then he reached the zebra crossing,

And the cars kept whizzing by,

Our chum groaned "There’s much more to this,

Than meets my little eye."

"I really would appreciate,

A helping hand from Jane,

However it is much too late,

To sneak back home again!"

Geronimo just stood there,

Quite rooted to the spot,

"If I stay here," he quivered,

"I think I’ll lose the plot!"

"I thought that I could handle this,

But now I feel quite dizzy,

You see I never realised,

That the road could be so busy!"

Poor Bear then started crying,

As if he’d never stop,

Until he noticed someone,

With a giant Lollypop!

She was standing on the crossing,

And wore a yellow jacket,

He cried "Please help me cross the road,

Because I cannot hack it.

When I left the house this morning,

I felt brave as brave can be,

But now this situation,

Has proved too much for me!"

"Oh no it’s not," the woman smiled,

"So do stop crying please,

You see I’m here to help you,

And my Christian name’s Louise.

If you hold on for a minute,

I’ll sort this problem out,

You’ve got no need to worry,

All the time that I’m about!"

Armed with her giant Lollypop,

She stepped into the road,

And the traffic stopped completely,

When it saw her precious load.

"Oh gosh!" Beamed Teddy to himself,

"My new friend is just ace,

No wonder all my worries,

Have vanished without trace!"

Louise then started waving,

At our rather awe struck chum,

She smiled "The road’s now clear and so,

It’s safe for you to come."

Geronimo smiled back at her,

And then walked straight across,

He laughed "Ill do just as you say,

Because you are the boss!"

In no time whatsoever,

He’d reached the other side,

"You did that very well my dear,"

His kind friend smiled with pride.

"I know," replied the happy Bear,

"But that’s all down to you,

Because when I was nervous,

You showed me what to do."

"I really am so grateful,

For all you’ve done for me,

In fact I’m looking forward,

To seeing you at three."

He kissed Louise upon the cheek,

Then hurried on his way,

But she’s still there to guide him,

Across the road each day!

THE END.
