Geronimo, the little Bear,

Has got a yellow kite,

When Jane first gave it to him,

He squealed in sheer delight!

"Let's take it up upon the hill,"

Said Jane with a huge smile,

"Okay then," laughed the Teddy,

"I'll be ready in a while!"

In the twinkling of an eyelid,

The adventure had begun,

At first they called on Barry,

To join in all the fun.

"We're flying kites!" they told him,

"And think you should come too,

Because you have a purple one,

And know just what to do!"

Friend Barry was delighted,

And grinned; "That sounds just great,

I'll have to bring Joe with me,

Because he is my mate!"

Joe Bear was Barry's Teddy,

In case you didn't know,

He was cute and very cuddly,

Just like Geronimo.

And when he heard about the plan,

He smiled "That's really nice,

I've got an Orange kite myself,

I've only flown it twice!"

The friends all headed for the hills,

As quickly as they could,

A gusty wind began to blow,

And that was VERY good!

Friend Barry flew his kite at first,

It spun round in the sky,

Geronimo and little Joe,

Both shouted "My oh my!"

It made amazing patterns,

And seemed to do a dance,

It longed to get between the clouds,

But never got the chance!

"Oh this is quite fantastic!"

Gasped our Geronimo,

"And when this flight is finished,

I'd love to have a go!"

"Just copy what I'm doing,"

Was Barry's kind reply,

"Just hold the string so tightly,

And point it to the sky!"

Our Hero took his sound advice,

And so did little Joe,

Straight up into the gusty breeze,

Their precious kites did go.

"Look Jane! We've really done it!"

Called out the happy Bears,

"We've come to see the fluffy clouds,

And caught them unawares!"

The little girl just giggled,

And told them "I'm so glad,

This is the very nicest day,

That I have ever had!"

They flew the kites for ages,

Until Joe saw a van,

And begged; "Let's buy some lollies,

From that very busy man!"

"Okay then," answered Barry,

"That is a good idea,

"But someone has to hold the kites,

And keep a lookout here!"

"I'll do that!" smiled Geronimo,

"I'm big now after all,

"I'll hold on very tightly,

And will not let them fall!"

But while the others were away,

Bear got a big surprise,

The wind blew even harder,

And he began to rise!

"Oh bother!" he cried loudly,

"I'm floating in the air,

And there is no one on the ground,

To help a little bear!"

He flew a wee bit higher,

And almost touched a tree,

"Now that's a funny looking cloud,"

Laughed all the birds with glee!

"I'm not a cloud!" cried Teddy,

"I am a little Bear,

In case you didn't realise,

I need to get down there!"

This made the birds laugh louder,

And then they flew away,

"Oh curses!" thought Geronimo,

"It's been a funny day!"

Meanwhile the others had returned,

"My goodness me!" cried Joe,

"That funny looking cloud up there,

Looks like Geronimo!"

"It's playing with three pretty kites"

He added with a smile.

"And looks as if it's been up there,

For such a long, long while!"

Jane looked a little closer,

And she was horrified,

"Hang on, that IS Geronimo,

He MUST come down!" she cried!

Friend Barry hugged her tightly,

And told her not to worry,

"He'll come down soon!" he promised,

"There is no need to hurry!"

Geronimo was shouting,

And making lots of noise,

But then a giant crow appeared,

And said; "Let's stop him boys!"

His friends all gathered round him,

And began to peck Bears kite,

By the time that they had finished,

It WAS a sorry sight!

"Whatever are you doing?"

Called out the frightened Teddy,

"Oh no, oh no, I'm falling,

And do not feel too steady!"

The nasty crows just giggled,

And flew away once more,

The wind was even colder,

And stronger than before!

Our furry friend fell further,

Then landed on the ground,

He floated down so gently,

And didn't make a sound!

"Good gracious me!" he mumbled,

"That gave me such a fright,

I rose up in the air and then,

I flew just like a kite!"

Jane hugged him very tightly,

And so did Barry too,

"You've been so brave!" they told him,

"And we are proud of you!"

"It's nothing!" smiled Geronimo,

"It felt just like a dream,

But now I'd like to share with you,

That WONDERFUL ice cream!"

THE END.
