Geronimo the little Bear,
Woke up one Winters day,
He had a very painful throat,
Which wouldn't go away.
The Teddy opened up his mouth,
But he could hardly speak,
Instead of talking properly,
He only gave a squeak!

"You've got to help me Jane!" he croaked,
"I've lost my voice you see,
My throat is REALLY swollen,
And as painful as can be!"
His Mistress looked down Teddy's throat,
And saw that it was true,
"Don't worry though" she told him,
"I know just what to do!"

She took him off to Doctor John,
But he just shook his head,
"Those tonsils are quite useless,
And they MUST come out!" he said.
The little Bear went VERY pale,
And muttered; "No! No! No!
That means a trip to hospital,
And I don't want to go!"

"Don't panic!" said Jane gently,
"Our hospital is nice,
The nurses make you better,
And offer sound advice!"
"She's right you know," smiled Doctor John,
"They let you eat ice cream,
And send you to the land of nod,
Where you are free to dream!"

Geronimo went quiet,
Then he hissed "I'm still not sure,
But I think I'd better go there,
As my throat is VERY sore!"
Friend Jane gave him a cuddle,
And the Doctor smiled; "Well done,
I'm certain once you're in there,
You will have a lot of fun!"

It really wasn't long before,
The BIG day came at last,
Our Hero fetched his suitcase,
And packed it very fast!

He walked straight to the hospital,
With Friend Jane by his side,
He felt a little nervous,
But he never moaned or cried!
When they reached their destination,
Sister Janet smiled; "Come in!
I hear you've got a poorly throat,
That's put you in a spin!"

"It has," croaked our Geronimo,
"Because I cannot speak,
I sound just like a little frog,
And have done for a week!"
"Don't worry," smiled the Sister,
"You'll soon be well once more,
For when it comes to nasty bugs,
We really know the score!"

She led the friends into the ward,
And tucked Bear up in bed,
The boy next door smiled broadly,
"Hello I'm Dan!" he said.
"I came here with a poorly throat,"
He went on to explain,
"But thanks to everybody here,
"I'm nearly well again!"

"Oh really," answered Teddy,
"That's just what's wrong with me,
You haven't faired too badly though,
As far as I can see!"
"It's great here!" Dan laughed loudly,
"They give you orange jelly,
And when you've eaten lots of it,
It rumbles round your belly!"

The two boys talked a little more,
And then to sleep they fell,
While Jane lay close beside them,
To see that all went well.
Next morning, bright and early,
Sister Janet came along,
She smiled "Hello my darling,
Are you feeling big and strong?"

"We're going to the theatre,"
She went on to explain,
"And when you wake up from your sleep,
You will be free from pain!"
Jane helped Bear on the trolley,
As gently as she could,
And then he had a lovely ride,
Which did him lots of good!

It was over all too quickly,
And some medicine he took,
He murmured; "I'm so sleepy,
That I don't know where to look!"
Jane took his floppy paw and smiled,
"Try counting wooly sheep,"
But soon the tired Teddy,
Had drifted off to sleep!

He dreamt of giant space ships,
Which took him to the moon,
And met a friendly Astronaut,
Whose songs were out of tune!
But after just a little while,
A voice called "It's all over,
Those tonsils have been taken out,
And you are now in clover!"

Geronimo was quite confused,
But opened up his eyes,
And as he looked around him,
He got a big surprise.
The space ship had just vanished,
And Jane was by his bed,
"It's been a really crazy day,
What's going on?" he said.

"It's okay!" grinned his mistress,
"You've had a funny dream,
But now I'm pleased to tell you,
It's time for your ice cream!"
"Oh goody!" squealed the happy Bear,
"I'd love some jelly too,
I feel I should be pampered,
After what I've just been through!"

"I quite agree!" laughed Sister,
(As she handed him a plateful,)
"For your co-operation,
I'm well and truly grateful!"
Our Hero ate his pudding,
As quickly as he could,
"You're right you know," he grinned at Dan,
"That tasted jolly good!"

When supper had been eaten,
And his plate was really clean,
The Teddy said "I need more sleep,
As quite a day it's been!"

The next day was a happy one,
Bear packed his little case,
And went up to the Sister,
With a smile upon his face.
"I'm going now!" he told her,
"But thanks for all you've done,
The very poorly throat I had,
Is now a healthy one!"

"It's nothing!" smiled Friend Janet,
(as she gave him a quick cuddle,)
"I'm very, very happy,
To have sorted out your muddle!"
She waved to our Geronimo,
As he trotted home with Jane,
And then the busy lady,
Went back to work again.

THE END.
