Geronimo's Harvest
Festival.
While
staying with his Auntie Marg,
Geronimo the Bear,
Went
out into her garden,
And saw
a sad sight there.
Sitting
underneath the apple tree,
There
was a girl so pretty,
Big
tears were rolling down her cheeks,
Which
was a dreadful pity.
"Hello," smiled Teddy kindly,
"What's
making you feel sad?
To sort
out all your problems,
I would
be very glad."
"I'm
Erin," sobbed the little girl,
I've
never felt such sorrow,
The
others will all tease me,
When I
go to school tomorrow!"
"Why's
that then?" asked our Furry Chum,
"You
look okay to me,
So you
haven't got a problem,
As far
as I can see!"
"Oh yes
I have!" sobbed Erin,
As if
her heart would break,
"There's a special harvest Service,
And I
can't think what to take!"
"I
haven't any money,
So I
can't buy much at all,
I'm
feeling most upset,
Because
I'm heading for a fall!"
Our
Friend sat down beside her,
And
answered "No you're not,
Because
as it so happens,
A great
idea I've got!"
"What
is it?" asked the little girl,
"Please
tell me straight away,
Because
one, small suggestion,
Might
help to save the day!"
Bear
put an arm around her,
"Well
it's like this," smiled he,
"I vote
we pick some apples,
From
this most amazing tree!"
"What a
good idea!" beamed Erin,
As she
jumped up on her feet,
"I know
those tasty apples,
Will go
down quite a treat!"
"We'd
better ask your Auntie,
If we
can pick some Cox's,
Then if
she lets us have some,
We'll
need some cardboard boxes."
When
Marg heard what they wanted,
She
gave a friendly grin,
And
laughed "This all sounds lots of fun,
So
please may I join in!"
Armed
with three enormous boxes,
They
headed for the tree,
Where
the most amazing pickings,
Were
there for all to see!
"Good
gracious!" Bear cried loudly,
"That's
the biggest crop I've seen,
I just
cannot get over,
What a
bumper year it's been!"
"Get
picking then!" Marg chuckled,
"We
haven't got all day,
So
"Operation Harvest",
Got
quickly underway!
Things
started very nicely,
But
then Erin gave a shout,
She
squealed "I'm in a pickle,
So will
someone help me out."
"I've
done the lower branches,
But the
others are too high,
I'd
like to pick more apples,
But far
too small am I!"
"Don't
worry," smiled our Furry Friend,
"It's
all in hand you see,
I'll
lift you on my shoulders,
And
quite okay you'll be!"
"Oh
thank you!" beamed the little girl,
"Then I
can pick them all,
Your
brain is quite enormous,
For
somebody so small!"
Perched
high on Teddy's shoulders,
More
apples were soon picked,
"Just
as you said!" she giggled,
"We've
got this problem licked!"
"You'll
telling me!" Marg answered,
"The
Boxes all piled high,
Your
schoolchums won't top this lot,
Not
matter how they try!"
"I
know," smiled Erin broadly,
"But I
am not complaining,
It's
lucky we have finished now,
Because
it's started raining!"
Geronimo cried "Is it?
Then
it's time we went indoors,
And
since I have been working,
I'd
better wash my paws!"
"We all
had!" laughed his Auntie Marg,
"I've
made some cakes for tea,
And
we've got to take these boxes in,
A hard
job that will be!"
When
the hard work was all over,
They
settled down to eat,
"Oh
my," sighed Teddy afterwards,
"Those
cakes were hard to beat!"
"Yes
thank you," said the little girl,
""That
was a lovely tea,
I'm
also very grateful,
For
what you've done for me!"
"I tell
you what," she added,
"Why
don't you come tomorrow?
I
reckon you deserve it,
For
stopping all my sorrow!"
"We'd
love to!" squealed her special chums,
In
absolute delight,
"Because we're both so happy,
That
things have worked out right!"
Erin
hurried home that Evening,
With a
twinkle in her eye,
Because
she knew she'd found a gift,
That
money couldn't buy!
THE
END.
