One summer our Geronimo,

Was visiting a farm,

He thought that all the animals,

Would be quite free from harm.

As he walked around the farmyard,

Things seemed to be okay,

He giggled "Oh how lovely,

The lambs are all at play!"

However in a little while,

Our Chum had reached a shed,

And when he took a look inside,

He shook his furry head.

The big shed was in darkness,

And he heard a little cluck,

Someone begged "You’ve got to help me,

As I’ve run right out of luck!"

"In case you didn’t realise,

My Christian name is Hannah,

For compassion in world farming,

I’m carrying the banner!"

Poor Bear was quite astonished,

He cried "That can’t be right,

But I will do my very best,

To end your awful plight!"

As he switched the little light on,

He shouted "Ooh my word,"

For sitting there before him,

Was a nervous looking bird.

"Thank goodness you’ve arrived!" she clucked,

"I’m aching to be free,

For when you’re stuck inside a shed,

So lonely it can be!"

"I bet it is!" cried Teddy,

"But now that I am here,

Your life will get much better,

Of that please have no fear!"

He ran towards the tiny box,

And lifted Hannah out,

And told her "In a minute,

You’ll be waddling about!"

"Oh will I?" clucked the lovely hen,

"That sounds no end of fun,

"How can I ever thank you,

For all that you have done?"

Geronimo began to laugh,

"You soppy thing!" smiled he,

"You’ve earned your right to freedom,

On that we both agree!"

"The best way you can thank me,

Is to have a happy life,

I consider it an honour,

To have ended all your strife."

When they went out in the sunshine,

Little Hannah got excited,

"Oh look at all this space!" she said,

"I really am delighted!"

"I can run around for ages,

And will not have to worry,

So if you’ll kindly put me down,

I’ll vanish in a hurry!"

"I thought you would!" grinned Teddy,

"But promise to take care,

For in case you didn’t realise,

It’s a dangerous world out there."

"Oh I’ll be fine!" his new friend chuckled,

Flapping her enormous wings,

"As thanks to you I’m on my way,

To many better things."

As she finally waddled out of sight,

Our Hero grinned "She’s charming,"

And to this day he still campaigns,

For kinder ways of farming!

THE END.
