As he walked along the country lane,

One day in mid July,

Geronimo felt happy,

And looked up at the sky.

"I’m really glad I came," he smiled,

"The flowers are in bloom,

Which means we’ve seen the back of,

That winter doom and gloom!"

"There is no doubt about it,

I love this time of year,

And everything about it,

Makes me grin from ear to ear!"

Our Hero thought that nothing,

Could break his little spell,

But when he reached a nearby bush,

It seemed all wasn’t well.

To his absolute amazement,

He heard somebody whine,

"You’ll have to come and help me out,

As I am far from fine.

You see, I am a greyhound,

Who’s been stuck here all night,

I’m absolutely freezing,

Which surely can’t be right!"

The kind Bear got upon his paws,

As quickly as he could,

Then he peered beneath the bushes,

Just like he said he would.

In the corner of the biggest one,

A frightened Greyhound lay,

"I’ve been thrown out," he quivered,

"Because I’ve had my day!"

"My owners seemed to love me,

When I ran around the track,

But sadly now I’m older,

Appeal I seem to lack!"

"My Christian name is Graham"

He added with a sigh,

"I’m hoping you will warm me up,

As freezing cold am I!!"

"Here, have this," answered Teddy,

Taking off his summer Jacket,

"Cruelty makes me very angry,

And I really cannot hack it."

"Oh thanks a lot," barked Graham,

"I feel much better now,

I have to find a brand new home,

But sadly don’t know how."

"Don’t fret," soothed our Geronimo,

"I’ll get you sorted out,

You need a hearty meal right now,

Of that I have no doubt!"

Before you could say 'stranded',

They were walking down the lane,

And soon our little Hero,

Was explaining things to Jane.

When she heard the Greyhound’s story,

She murmured "Dear oh dear,

It really is a dreadful shame,

That we can’t keep him here"

"Why not?" Bear asked her puzzled,

"He needs somewhere to live,

This seemed the best solution,

As we’ve lots of love to give!"

"I know," his good friend answered,

"But our house is only small,

To keep him in a place like this,

Would not be fair at all.

He needs a great big garden,

So he can run around,

And I know a special lady,

Who can keep him safe and sound."

"Margaret lives around the corner,

And her greyhound needs a mate,

I’d better go and phone her up,

Before it is too late!"

She went to make the special call,

While Graham had his tea,

And when he met his playmate,

Quite overcome was he!

He ran straight up to Lindy Loo,

And gave her nose a lick,

"How lovely," smiled our Furry Chum,

"I knew those two would click,"

The dogs are still inseparable,

And even to this day,

He often takes them to the park,

And watches them at play.

THE END.
