Geronimo
and the Gentle Giants.
Geronimo the little Bear,
Had tossed and turned all night,
So he went out for a gentle stroll,
Before the day got light.
The forest was so peaceful,
And he grinned "I like it here,
Perhaps some time all by myself,
Will help my head to clear."
"It’s been the most horrendous night,
That I have ever had,
And to be at one with nature,
Makes me very, very glad."
Teddy gave a little chuckle,
As he rubbed his tired eyes,
Then the sound of distant talking,
Took him really by surprise.
"Good heavens!" he gasped loudly,
"Whoever can that be?
I think I should unravel,
This sudden mystery!"
He continued on his journey,
Then he heard the sound of growling,
"This gets even worse," he mumbled,
"A stray dog must be prowling!"
"To be completely honest,
I’m working up a sweat,
But I want to know what’s happening,
So cannot give up yet.
Our furry Chum walked onwards,
Until he reached a clearing,
He thought "I’ll have a little rest,
This place is so endearing."
He sneaked underneath the bushes,
And was quiet as the grave,
Then he heard some heavy footsteps,
And another gasp he gave.
"Oh golly!" groaned Geronimo,
"The ground has started shaking,
It isn’t any wonder,
That such rapid breaths I’m taking!"
As he finished off his sentence,
He felt very, very ill,
Because the massive footsteps,
Came even nearer still.
And just to make things even worse,
A voice then started booming,
"Please come out of your hiding place,
As trouble isn’t looming!"

The little Bear was nervous,
But he lifted up the bush,
And mumbled "Oh my goodness,
My luck I shouldn’t push!"
For standing right before him,
Was a giant oh so tall,
"Don’t eat me up!" he quivered,
"I’m only very small!"
"Don’t worry," smiled the Giant,
"That’s the last thing on my mind,
I live here with my brother,
And I’m gentle, sweet and kind."
"My Christian name is Fizzle,"
He went on to explain,
"We don’t get many visitors,
So can we start again!"
"Oh I don’t know," wailed Teddy,
"You still look jolly scary,
And I’m frightened if I cross you,
You’ll get ever so contrary!"
"That’s balderdash!" boomed Fizzle,
"Now will you follow me,
I’ve two important house guests,
That I think you ought to see."
Our Furry friend was nervous,
But then he smiled "All right,
Your authority is something,
That I wouldn’t want to fight!"
In minutes they were standing,
In a very special place,
Wild buttercups and daisies,
Filled every single space.
"Our garden," giggled Fizzle,
"I knew you’d be impressed,
Now you’ve had a lengthy journey,
So it’s time you had a rest."
They went up to a wooden seat,
And then what do you think?
Bear saw another giant,
And was truly tickled pink!
He was feeding two small fox cubs,
Who were only hours old,
And whispered "Sit down slowly,
And they’ll be as good as gold."
When Teddy was quite comfy,
He whispered in his ear,
"Oh by the way I’m Foozle,
It’s nice to have you here!"
"These fox cubs have been orphaned,
So they’ve got to stay a while,
I bet you’d like to hold them though,"
He added with a smile.
Our Chum was quite delighted,
"You’re spot on there," grinned he,
To think when I first met you,
You looked scary as can be!"
"Well looks can be deceptive,"
The smiling giants laughed,
"Now hold onto our houseguests,
And do stop being daft!!"
Geronimo smiled broadly,
As he took their sound advice,
And smiled "This is fantastic,
Their fur feels very nice."
When the fox cubs finished sleeping,
He put them on the grass,
And played some barmy games with them,
Which helped the time to pass.
Then as so often happens,
The sun rose in the sky,
"Oh blow!" he shouted miserably,
"I’ll have to say goodbye!"
"Don’t worry," giggled Fizzle,
"Now you know where we live,
You can come back very often,
And assistance you can give!"
Bear handed the cubs over,
And he gave the broadest grin,
While squealing "That’s fantastic,
You can gladly count me in!"
He left the forest quickly,
Just like you always should,
But the happy little threesome,
Are still doing lots of good.
The moral of this poem,
Is as simple as can be,
Sometimes it’s very foolish,
To judge on what you see!
THE END.
