Geronimo
and the Forgotten Cuddle.
Poor Jane
had got the measles,
And had to
stay in bed,
Geronimo
looked up at her,
And then
he scratched his head.
He sighed
“Those spots are dreadful,
And I feel
bad for you,
But now I
face a problem,
And
don’t know what to do!”
“I’ve
got to get to school today,
But I am
only little,
A trip
across the busy road,
Would make
my fur go brittle.
With no
one else to take me,
I’ll
miss my art class so,
This
sudden situation,
Has left
me feeling low!”
“I’m
sick,” his friend retorted,
“I
can’t go out like this,
You should
be sympathetic,
Now things
have gone amiss.
I’ve
tended to you often,
And
haven’t said a word,
But now
you are complaining,
Which
really is absurd!”
Feeling
very under valued,
She rolled
over on her side,
While
sighing “Now be quiet,
Or else
I’ll tan your hide!”
Bear knew
that she was serious,
So he did
just as she said,
And spent
the next few minutes,
Just
sitting on the bed.
He thought
“She can be hard at times,
Of that I
am quite sure,”
But just
as he reached boiling point,
Somebody
rapped the door.
Bored
Teddy leapt down off the bed,
And
hurried down the stairs,
While
saying “I keep missing things,
But no one
ever cares!”
But when
he opened up the door,
He saw his
lovely Nan,
And
chuckled “You can help me out,
If anybody
can.
Now Jane
has got the measles,
I cannot
go to school,
And if I
miss my art class,
I’ll
feel a proper fool.”
“Don’t
fret,” smiled the old woman,
“I’m
taking you instead,”
And as
they hurried up the road,
She
ruffled his small head.
While
going on their journey,
They
counted Autumn leaves,
And when
they finally got to school,
Our Chum
rolled up his sleeves!
Then he
raced into the classroom,
And went
to join his chums,
But when
his kind Nan turned to leave,
He really
got the glums.
“Whatever’s
wrong?” she asked him,
“I
thought you liked it here,
When we
walked through the wooden gate,
You
grinned from ear to ear!”
“Of
course.” Smiled our Geronimo,
“But
something you’ve forgotten,
If I
don’t have a cuddle,
I’ll end
up feeling rotten!”
The kind
old woman chuckled,
And then
she hugged him tightly,
“I’ll
see you in a little while,”
She told
him very brightly.
“Too
right you will” Bear giggled,
As she
headed out the door,
Then he
sat down at his easel,
And worked
harder than before!
Then when
Bear got indoors again,
Jane
smiled “How was your day,
I’m
proud that you have earned a star,
It’s
very true to say!”
“Oh I am
too,” smiled Teddy,
“In fact
I feel quite smug,
My special
piece of artwork,
Was
inspired by a hug!”
Nan’s
cheeks began to redden,
And she
laughed “Oh goodness me,
I think
I’d better leave you,
As it’s
time to cook the tea!”
Our hero
grinned a cheeky grin,
And showed
her out the door,
While
whispering “My goodness,
I’ve
tons to thank you for!”
The old
woman didn’t answer,
She just
held him very tight,
And when
everything was sorted,
She headed
out of sight!
THE END.
