Geronimo Prevents Forest Fires.

The school bell rang out loudly,

So feeling really great,

Geronimo picked up his bag,

And hurried out the gate.

Smiling very, very broadly,

He headed for the wood,

While laughing "I’ve worked hard today,

The rest will do me good."

"I can walk around at leisure,

And smell the country air,

Because unlike the city,

No fumes are lurking there.

I’ve made a wise decision,

Of that I have no doubt,

I’ll go and celebrate the fact,

That school is finally out!"

But when he reached the woodland,

Our chum was stunned to see,

A couple of his playmates,

Who were acting foolishly.

They’d made a camp together,

And running round and round,

"Just look at this!" they giggled,

"Some matches we have found!"

"If we rub them both together,

A fire we can start,

In this special operation,

You will have to play your part!"

But Teddy simply stared at them,

And snapped "Not on your life,

If you mess about with matches,

It’ll cause no end of strife!"

"Oh come on!" shouted Matty,

"It’s just a bit of fun,

This’ll only take a minute,

And no damage will be done!"

"He’s right you know!" Dan added,

"We’ve got everything in hand,

So why you are so nervous,

We do not understand!"

"Well then you’re nuts!" Bear answered,

"The facts are plan to see,

If you start a forest fire,

So dangerous it would be.

In no time whatsoever,

The trees would catch alight,

And the little birds who live in them,

Would surely die from fright!"

"All other types of wildlife,

Would also perish too,

So I hope I’ve made you realise,

It’s a foolish thing to do.

I know to have a lot of fun,

You’re both extremely keen,

But if this place is to survive,

"We’ve got to keep it green!"

"You may be very cheeky,

But evil you are not,

So will you please abandon,

The crazy plan you’ve got?"

When he finished off his sentence,

His friends were most upset,

"Of course we will," they muttered,

"Our actions we regret!"

"We simply thought a fire,

Would make things more exciting,

But now we’d really like to join,

The cause that you are fighting.

We’re very fond of animals,

And think they need protection,

From now on all our energies,

Will go in that direction!"

Geronimo was thrilled to bits,

And grinned from ear to ear,

"Well done you two," he chuckled,

"That’s very nice to hear!"

"Now everything is sorted,

Shall we have a game of cricket?"

Then along with Dan and Matty,

He raced off into the thicket!

Next time you go out playing,

Don’t go starting forest fires,

Just leave the birds and animals,

To follow their desires!
