Geronimo and the Fire Practice.
Geronimo and all his pals,
Were sat in class one day,
They were making super sculptures,
Out of very runny clay.
Bear turned to look at Mathew,
"My goodness me," he laughed,
"Somehow you’ve got a crooked nose,
Which makes you look so daft!"
"Don’t worry," smiled the
little boy,
"I’m having problems too,
This thing I’ve got before me,
Doesn’t look a bit like you!"
They giggled very loudly,
When they looked at what they’d done,
And squealed "This crazy lesson,
Has been a lot of fun!"

The pair just went on working,
And making lots of plans,
Then Teddy cried "Good heavens,
It’s time to wash our hands!
When we are doing boring sums,
The time drags on and on,
I really can’t get over,
How fast this morning’s gone!"
"You’re dead right there!" grinned
Mathew,
Giving him a knowing wink,
And with a little chuckle,
They walked towards the sink!
But as they both stepped forward,
To wash their dirty hands,
A very noisy bell rang out,
And ruined all their plans!
The whole class were astounded,
"What’s going on?" they cried,
"Don’t worry," answered Mr Gates,
"We’ve got to go outside.
This is a fire practise,"
He added quietly,
"We have to leave the building,
As calmly as can be!"
His pupils didn’t answer,
They simply formed a line,
Then walked into the playground,
Where the weather was so fine.
Miss Hicks the infant teacher,
Started reading from a list,
She said "On checking everybody’s here,
I really must insist!"
Bear stood there like a statue,
But his name was not called out,
"This isn’t fair!" he muttered,
"I want to run about!"
"They said this fire practise,
Would only take a jiff,
But if I carry on like this,
My legs will get quite stiff!"
Then as he stood there mumbling,
With his little head bowed low,
The teacher took him by surprise,
And called "Geronimo!"
Because he had been dreaming,
This really made him jump,
"Oh sorry," he said quietly,
"I feel a proper clump!"
"I bet you do!" came the reply,
"You should have used your ears,
But this useful fire practice,
Is over now my dears!"
"Ooh that was close!" groaned Teddy,
As they went inside once more,
"Next time I’ll listen harder,
Than I’ve ever done before!"
Matthew held his mucky hands up,
Then told him with a smile,
"Let’s have a wash and brush up,
It’s lunchtime in a while!"
They walked into the cloakroom,
And scrubbed themselves quite clean,
While our Hero said with feeling,
"What a funny day it’s been!"
THE END.
