Geronimo
and the Exploding Airbed.
Friend Jane had gone out shopping,
But our Geronimo,
Was stuck indoors all by himself,
And feeling very low.
"Oh bother!" he groaned miserably,
"This really is a pain,
Football practice has been cancelled,
As it’s pouring down with rain!"
"So I’m sitting in this armchair,
Feeling very sad and blue,
But how to fill the hours,
I just haven’t got a clue!"
After sighing very heavily,
Bear closed his sleepy eyes,
But then an idea struck him,
And he jumped up in surprise!
"I’ve cracked it now!" he giggled,
In absolute delight,
"When cousin Pete comes visiting,
Things have to be just right.
So while no one’s here to stop me,
The airbed I’ll inflate,
This is the most important job,
Which really cannot wait!"
Our Chum raced up the wooden hill,
As quickly as he could,
And came down with the airbed,
Just like he said he would.
He took it out the packet,
And laid it on the floor,
"Fantastic," he grinned happily,
"I couldn’t ask for more!"
When everything was in it’s place,
He fetched the foot pump and,
He started on his special task,
Exactly as he planned!
"My goodness me!" puffed Teddy,
"This job is so much fun,
But because I’m only little,
Right out of breath I’ve run!"
"The blood is busy pumping,
All around my tiny chest,
But this job is not completed,
So I’ve got no time to rest!"
Little Bear continued working,
And then he cried "At last,
It seems as though my problems,
Are firmly in the past!"
"That bed looks nice and cosy,
So while no one is about,
I’ll grab the opportunity,
To try this beauty out."
He leapt upon the airbed,
As quickly as he could,
And giggled "Oh fantastic,
This feels really, really good!"
"I think I’ll test how strong it is,
By jumping up and down,
Because it has been ages,
Since I acted like a clown!"
Geronimo smiled broadly,
As he leapt up to his feet,
And in underneath a minute,
Things were working out a treat.
"This is brilliant!" he chuckled,
As he almost touched the ceiling,
"Nobody could imagine,
The happiness I’m feeling.
In fact, to be quite honest,
I feel like a kangaroo,
So now I’d like to copy,
The crazy stunts they do!"
Laughing really, really loudly,
He bounced even higher still,
While squealing "I’m quite certain,
There can be no bigger thrill!"
But after half an hour,
A gigantic bang he heard,
This made our Chum fall backwards,
And yell out "Oh my word."
"Exactly what is happening,
Is really hard to tell,
But I’ve got a funny feeling,
That all is far from well!"
As he finished off his sentence,
There was a little hiss,
And little Bear sighed "Bother,
I cannot cope with this!"
"After working hard all morning,
The airbed’s shrunk in size,
A great disaster’s happened,
Before my very eyes!"
"You made it happen," said a voice,
"So you should not complain,
You bounced up way too high and so,
The air escaped again!"
"But you have learned your lesson now,
Of that I am quite sure,
So I would like to help you,
To put things right once more!"
"Oh Jane!" cried Teddy loudly,
"I didn’t see you there,
I’ve been a proper wally,
Of that I’m well aware!"
"Don’t worry," smiled the little
girl,
"I know just what to do,"
And soon the orange airbed,
Was looking good as new.
As soon as it was all pumped up,
She hid it out of sight,
And Geronimo was most relived,
That things had turned out right.
The morale of this poem,
Is so very plain to see,
Don’t bounce around on airbeds,
Or in trouble you will be!!
THE END.
