One bright and sunny afternoon,

The weather was so fine,

As Geronimo and all his chums,

Stood on the starting line.

"My goodness me!" thought Teddy,

"I hope the race starts soon,

Because I’m getting nervous,

That I’ll drop my egg and spoon."

After what had seemed a lifetime,

He heard the whistle blow,

So he started racing down the track,

As fast as he could go.

Friend Jane was cheering loudly,

As was his lovely Nan,

"I’m jolly glad they’re here," he puffed,

"I’ll do the best I can."

At first things went like clockwork,

Bear ran like a gazelle,

He grinned "I don’t believe it,

Things are working out so well

If I carry on at this rate,

I might just win the cup,

Then just like David Beckham,

I will gladly lift it up!"

Like many lads before him,

He got caught up in a dream,

Then all to soon he realised,

Things aren’t always as they seem.

As Our Chum was busy dreaming,

His paw began to shake,

He tried his best to stop it,

But still made a big mistake!

The little spoon fell from his paw,

And then the egg went CRACK,

Soon a slimy yellow puddle,

Was covering the track!

Geronimo felt awful,

And he began to cry,

"I’m sorry everybody,

What an idiot am I!"

"I really hoped I’d win this,

But now it’s much to late,

Because I started dreaming,

And forgot to concentrate."

There was a moment’s silence,

Then someone tapped his shoulder,

And whispered "Hindsight’s wonderful,

You’ll learn that when you’re older!"

"You may not be the winner,

But you’re a star to me,

So will you please stop wailing,

As there’s no need you see."

The little Bear spun round at once,

Then saw his wise old Nan,

"Thank goodness!" he squealed happily,

"I’ve still got one loyal fan!"

"I’ve learned a useful lesson,

When you are in a race,

Think about what you are doing,

Or you’ll get egg on your face!"

Everybody started laughing,

Especially friend Jane,

And then when calm had been restored,

The race began again!

THE END.
