Geronimo and the
Donkey.
Geronimo the little Bear,
Was
sitting on the beach,
Where
wonderful surprises,
Are
never out of reach.
He made
a lot of castles,
And a
lot of fun he had,
But
then he met a donkey,
Who
looked extremely sad.
"Hello," smiled Teddy kindly,
"What's
making you feel low?
Please
tell me very quickly,
As I
really want to know!"
"I'm
hopeless," brayed the Animal,
"My
left leg has gone lame,
And now
nobody trusts me,
Which
is a dreadful shame!"

"I
stand here on my own all day,
While
all my friends share banter,
But no
one even looks at me,
Because
I cannot canter!"
His sad
eyes misted over,
And he
began to sob,
"I
might as well give up!" he cried,
"I'll
NEVER get a job!"
"Hey,
steady on!" laughed little Bear,
"You
don't know that for sure,
Some
opportunities in life,
Are
well worth waiting for!"
"You're
very kind," sighed Donkey,
"But
they all want someone fit,
My
riding days are over,
I'm
well aware of it!"
"Oh
don't be such a wally!"
Yelled
our Geronimo,
"Just
be a bit more positive,
And
give things one more go.
You'll
never get employment,
If you
just stand there and cry,
You've
got to take some action,
Or life
will pass you by!"
"You
know," replied the donkey,
"You're
absolutely right,
It's
time to stop my moping,
And
make the future bright!"
Bear laughed; "Now that's more like it,
I knew
you had more strength,
When I
am safely on your back,
We'll
ride around at length!"
He
climbed up on his new friend's back,
And
then he yelled; "Let's go,
The
Children are all waiting,
And
it's getting late you know!"
"All
right, I get the message!"
Said
Donkey with a grin,
"Just
let me get my bearings,
And
stop that dreadful din!"
He
ambled around the beach at first,
And
sadly no one looked,
Our
Hero muttered; "Try to trot,
"We've
got to get'em hooked!"
"I'll
do my best!" laughed Donkey,
"But
please don't hold your breath,
I'm
just a sad old fella,
Who
bravely cheated death!"
"You're
modest too!" grinned Teddy,
"Now
get yourself in gear,
Because
if we're not careful,
The
crowds will disappear!"
The
Animal fell silent,
And
then he got up speed,
He
shouted; "Look, I've cracked it!
I'm
very pleased indeed!"
Bear
bellowed; It's a miracle!
My
chum's leg was so wonky,
But now
he's passed his fitness test,
And is
an able donkey!"
"Please
everybody, grab the chance,
To ride
this clever beast,
Because
he's been to hell and back,
To say
the very least!"
A
little girl ran forward,
And
said; "I'd like a ride,
You're
such a lovely donkey,
And
I'll sit on you with pride!"
"My
Christian name is Lisa,
You're
very, very brave,
And as
you do not have a name,
I think
I'll call you Dave."
The
Donkey was delighted,
To have
a name at last,
With
Lisa sat upon his back,
The
trio set off fast!
They
rode along the soft, warm sand,
While
everybody cheered,
And all
Dave's inhibitions,
Completely disappeared!
Friend
Lisa sang a jolly song,
As they
went riding by,
But
Teddy simply gave a smile,
And
looked up at the sky!
But in
the twinkling of an eye,
A voice
called; "We must go,
I'm
sure it's nearly tea time,
Although my watch is slow!"
"Oh
goodness me!" cried Lisa,
"This
afternoon has flown,
I'll be
so sad to leave you,
As fond
of you I've grown!"
"We
feel the same!" replied her friends,
"But
you can come back soon,
For
we'll be working overtime,
Especially in June!"
"Okay
then", smiled the little girl,
(Who
ran towards her mother,)
"I'll
see you in the holidays,
Take
care of one another!"
They
watched her disappear from view,
Then
went back to the stable,
Dave
said; "It's mainly thanks to you,
That
I'm so fit and able.
I'll
always be so grateful,
That
you came by today,
Because
you showed a bit of faith,
When
others walked away!"
"I
didn't do a thing!" smiled Bear,
I
simply said "Hello",
But it
is still amazing,
How
confidence can grow.
You
were the one who took advice,
And
wiped away your fears,
There
must be more than sawdust,
Behind
those floppy ears!"
"You
cheeky thing!" brayed Donkey,
"Now
just get out of here,"
But
they've still got a friendship,
Which
deepens with each year!
THE END.
