Geronimo
Meets a Dynamic Dinner Lady.
Geronimo
had lived with Jane,
For just
about a year,
When he
hurried down the wooden stairs,
And
grinned “The big day’s here!
My
satchel’s packed and ready,
And my
uniform looks cool,
So now I
simply cannot wait,
To join
the village School!”
“I know
you can’t!” his friend replied,
“You
look extremely smart,
But
you’ve got to eat some breakfast,
Before we
make a start!”
Bear
looked slightly disappointed,
But he sat
down at the table,
Then he
ate up all his porridge,
As soon as
he was able!
When his
bowl was finally empty,
Jane
straightened his new tie,
She
sniffed “You look so grown up,
And jolly
proud am I!”
“Oh
don’t turn on the waterworks!”
Teased the
impatient Teddy,
“We
really should get moving,
It’s
half past eight already!”
“You’re
quite right,” smiled the little girl,
“I’m
very, very silly,
Now
you’d better do that coat up,
Or else
you’ll get quite chilly!”
“I’ve
done that!” sighed our Furry Chum,
“Now we
had better go,
For if you
keep on fussing me,
You’ll
make us late you know!”
They
hurried down the country lane,
As quickly
as they could,
And
reached the gate at five to nine,
Just like
he hoped they would.
Before he
wandered through it,
Jane
kissed him tenderly,
“Enjoy
yourself,” she told him,
“I’ll
be back at ten to three!”
“Don’t
worry!” laughed Geronimo,
“As
things will work out well,
“Now I
really should be going,
As I’ve
just heard the bell!”
In no time
whatsoever,
He was
sitting with his chums,
And
working out the answers,
To some
rather tricky sums!
This kept
them very busy,
Though it
was a lot of fun,
And before
they even knew it,
It was
twenty five to one.
When the
dinner bell rang loudly,
Children
leapt up from their seats,
Yelling
“Now it’s time for Burgers,
And other
tasty treats!”
They
hurried out the classroom,
Leaving
Teddy all alone,
He
murmured “This is awful,
I
don’t like it on my own!”
By the
time he reached the dining room,
There was
a massive queue,
“I’m
only three foot tall,” he groaned,
“What
ever shall I do!”
Feeling
ever so unhappy,
Our Hero
started crying,
“I wish
I hadn’t come,” he wept,
“This
lunchtime’s been so trying,
Because I
am so puny,
I cannot
see the food,
Which has
really but a damper,
On my very
jolly mood!”
“Don’t
worry,” said a kindly voice,
“I’ll
help you if I can,
I am a
dinner lady,
Who’s
Christian name is Anne.”
The grumpy
Bear looked upwards,
And saw
that it was true,
A woman
stood beside him,
And she
was smiling too.
“I’m
sorry,” he apologised,
“But
this is my first day,
And all
these silly obstacles,
Keep
getting in my way!”
“Don’t
worry,” Anne assured him,
“Just
take my hand and then,
I promise
I will do my best,
To put
things right again!”
Teddy
grinned “Oh I’m so grateful,
You can be
sure of that,
And it’s
also worth a mention,
That I
really like your hat!”
When they
went behind the counter,
He began
to lick his lips,
“Oh
goody!” he laughed loudly,
“I’m a
fan of fish and chips!”
“Oh
good,” his new friend answered,
“I’ll
just put some on your plate,
But you
better join the others,
Before it
is too late!”
In no time
whatsoever,
Our Chum
was tucking in,
And when
he got some extra chips,
He gave a
cheeky grin.
“Thanks
Anne,” he told her afterwards,
“Those
chips were really yummy,
They
helped to fill a massive hole,
Inside my
empty tummy!”
The dinner
lady smiled at him,
And
laughed “Okay my dear,
Whenever
you’re in trouble,
You’ll
find me standing here.”
Geronimo
winked at her,
As he
hurried out to play,
And their
very special friendship,
Is still
going strong today!
THE END.
