Geronimo
and the Decorating Disaster.
Do you
remember Niggle,
The Jolly
painter man?
Who’s
always helping people,
In every
way he can.
Well one
day in the summer,
He caught
a nasty bug,
Which
meant he had to stay in bed,
Where it
was warm and snug.
He groaned
“Oh this is awful,
Jack’s
room is just half done,
But I have
got to stay indoors,
Which
isn’t that much fun.”
Geronimo
looked up at him,
And
grinned from ear to ear,
“I’ll
lend a paw,” he chuckled,
“So you
need have no fear.”
“I’ve
watched you work so often,
That I
know just what to do,
In fact
I’m more than capable,
Of seeing
this job through
You’ve
got no need to worry,
As I will
do my best,
So follow
doctors orders,
And get a
bit of rest!”
“Okay,”
said Niggle weakly,
“But
promise you’ll take care,
I’m old
enough to realise,
It’s a
dangerous world out there!”
“I told
you,” Bear laughed loudly,
“I’ll
be absolutely fine,
And I’ll
never drop you in it,
As
you’re a friend of mine!”
Then he
picked up his equipment,
And headed
out the door,
While
grinning “Now I’m boss man,
I just
couldn’t ask for more.”
In no time
whatsoever,
He got to
Belle Cross Road,
Then
feeling keen as mustard,
He
unpacked the heavy load.
“This is
my chance,” grinned Teddy,
“I’ll
show them I’m not thick,”
As very,
very gingerly,
He stood
upon a brick.
Then
feeling most important,
He pulled
out the table and,
He laid
wallpaper on it,
Exactly as
he planned.
“Just as
I thought,” he giggled,
“This
isn’t hard to do,”
As he
gripped the strips so tightly,
And
covered them with glue.
But
when he tried to hang them,
They fell
straight off the wall,
And Our
furry chum groaned “Bother,
This
isn’t fair at all!”
“I think
I’ll do the ceiling,
As I’m
getting bored with this,
It’s got
lots of nooks and crannies,
Which I
don’t intend to miss.”
Our Hero
grabbed the roller,
And then
he set to work,
But when
he looked down at his fur,
It made
him go berserk!
“Good
heavens!” he yelled loudly,
“It’s
turned completely white,
If anybody
saw me,
They’d
have the biggest fright!
Some very
ugly splodges,
Have
covered up the floor,
And
exactly how to hide them,
I really
can’t be sure!”
As soon as
he had said this,
He fell
down in a heap,
And sighed
“When Niggle sees this,
I’ll be
in trouble deep,”
These
words had just been spoken,
When the
door burst open wide.
The
painter man was standing there,
“WHAT’S
HAPPENED HERE?” he cried.
“You
said that you would help me,
But
you’ve only made things worse,
And since
I’m feeling poorly,
This makes
me want to curse!”
“I
know,” wailed our Geronimo,
“I’ve
worked hard all day long,
But
although I’ve tried my hardest,
Things
still keep going wrong!”
“It’s
not your fault,” smiled Niggle,
“Now go
and scrub those paws,
And leave
me here to rectify,
This handy
work of yours!”
“Oh
thank you,” laughed the blushing Bear,
“That’s
such a good idea,
You know
what you are doing,
And I do
not I fear!”
He went to
wash his grubby paws,
And came
back later on,
And saw
the soaking paper,
And giant
marks had gone!
“My
goodness,” he squealed loudly,
“This
bedroom looks so nice,
The next
time that I’m helping you,
I’ll
follow your advice!”
“You
will not,” Smiled the painter,
“I’ll
do the job myself
For all
these messy mishaps,
Are no
good for my health!”
THE END.
