Geronimo
And The Crazy Cards.
One afternoon Geronimo,
Went to a stately home,
It had enormous gardens,
Where visitors could roam.
He was busy walking through them,
When a playing card came by,
It beamed "I’ve found my freedom,
So overjoyed am I!"
Our Chum was quite astonished,
As anyone would be,
He thought "This little brain of mine,
Is playing tricks on me"
"I’m very open minded,
But this surely can’t be true,
I think I’ll just ignore it,
And find something else to do!"
He took a few steps forward,
But then to his surprise,
The card crept up so close to him,
And looked him in the eyes.
It grinned "I’m Jack of Diamonds,
There’s no need to look so glum,
You see, I’ve got a feeling,
There are better times to come!"
"Excuse me," mumbled Teddy,
"You should be in a pack,
The other cards might miss you,
So you ought to go right back!"
"I’ll do no such thing!" Jack
answered,
"I had a rotten deal,
And so you can’t imagine,
The pleasure I now feel!"
"Oh poppycock!" scoffed little Bear,
"Life cannot be that hard,
Because when all is said and done,
You’re just a playing card!"
"Oh shut up!" yelled his angry friend
,
"I’m not some foolish martyr,
It’s just that awful Queen of Spades,
She really is a tartar!"
"Because I am the smallest card,
She always bullies me,
The others tend to back her up,
They’re scared as well you see!"
"Oh golly," sighed Geronimo,
"I’m not surprised you snapped,
For when these girls start nagging,
It’s easy to feel trapped."
"Jane does it to me sometimes,
And it drives me up the wall,
I have to leave the house because,
It isn’t fair at all!"
They winked at one another,
And laughed extremely loudly,
"It seems we’re kindred spirits!"
They chuckled very proudly.
But when the laugher died away,
They heard a sudden shout,
A voice yelled "Where’s that naughty
boy?
We’ve got to sort this out!"
"Oh no it’s her," Jack quivered,
In a really tiny voice,
"I’d better run away at once,
I’ve got no other choice!"
"No stay right there!" said Teddy,
"You’ve got no need to hide,
And please don’t look so worried,
Because I’m on your side!"
As he finished off his sentence,
The Queen of spades appeared,
She had a face like thunder,
And looked extremely weird!
She went up to the startled card,
And screeched "Oh there you are,
Come back to us this instant,
Or we will not get far!"
Poor Jack looked at her angry face,
Then hid behind the Bear,
Who told her; "Stop this bullying,
It really isn’t fair!"
Then the King of Clubs stepped forward
And said "But it’s quite true,
Since his sudden disappearance,
We’ve not known what to do."
"That’s right!" explained the three
of hearts,
"He’s left us quite dismayed,
For if everyone’s not present,
No card games can be played!"
Our Furry Chum looked up at them,
And muttered "Dear oh dear,
I can see their point of view and so,
We’ve got a problem here!"
"Do what?" cried Jack in disbelief,
"I thought you were my friend?
I was telling you this morning,
That their taunts just never end!"
"I know," replied Geronimo,
"But cards are meant for fun,
And all this endless squabbling,
Will not help anyone."
Then he went up to the Queen of Spades.
And said "I’m fond of Jack,
So you must treat him kindly,
If you really want him back!"
"Of course I will," came the reply,
"I’m sorry I was rude,
If he messes up in future,
Then I will not intrude!"
"We love him," cried the other cards,
"And want him back right now,
It would be utter madness,
To carry on this row!"
Bear looked up at their faces,
And told them "I agree,
But the ultimate decision,
Is up to him not me."
Then he turned towards his smiling friend,
And told him "It’s your choice."
Then to everyone’s amazement.
Jack found his strongest voice!
He walked up to the other cards,
Then gave a cheeky grin.
"I’ve missed you all," he giggled,
"And so I’ll let you win!"
They shuffled him in quickly,
And Our Chum went on his way,
Thinking "What a happy ending,
To a most unusual day!"
THE END.
