Christmas Carols

One day in mid December,

The weather was so cool,

But Geronimo and all his friends,

Still had to go to school.

“We ought to be indoors,” they moaned,

“Not trudging through the snow,

Why they couldn’t cancel lessons,

We really do not know!”

However when they reached the hall,

They had a big surprise,

A thousand decorations,

Were right before their eyes.

In the corner was an organ,

Which was waiting to be played.

“What’s going on?” gasped Teddy,

“I really am dismayed!”

“Don’t knock it!” smiled Karenza,

“As she sat down in her seat,

“I’ve got a funny feeling,

That we’re in for quite a treat!”

“You know,” said Debbie laughing,

“I think you could be right,

It’s just as if the fairies,

Have been overnight!”

Their small eyes full of wonder,

The pupils sat and waited,

By the time that Mr. Gates walked in,

Their tiny breaths were bated!

On seeing their expressions,

He giggled “It’s okay,

I thought we’d sing some carols,

As it’s nearly Christmas day!”

“I’ll be playing on the organ,

So I hope you’ll sing along,

I’ve also brought some friends of mine,

To join our happy throng!”

He gave a little whistle,

And ordered “Come in do,

My extra special audience,

Are waiting here for you!”

Just as he’d finished speaking,

The Children gave a gasp,

Bear hissed “This situation,

Is difficult to grasp!”

The other teachers had appeared,

In cloaks of ruby red,

“We are your Christmas Choir,

Do help us out!” they said.

They opened their mouths widely,

And then began to sing,

“Good heavens!” giggled Rachel,

“Now I’ve seen everything!”

When they’d finished the first Carol,

Everybody clapped like mad,

“You join in now,” smiled Mr Yiend,

“Too long a rest you’ve had!”

His little friends sat forward,

Their small eyes shining bright,

Then they started singing sweetly,

The lovely Silent Night.

More carols quickly followed,

The Children had a ball,

And lots of happy voices,

Could be heard around the hall!

When Mr. Gates grew tired,

He invited some on stage,

And they did their party pieces,

Which were clearly all the rage.

Mandy played a piece of music,

On her shiny new recorder,

While all her little classmates,

Sat waiting to applaud her!

Debbie read a jolly story,

About a cheeky elf,

She laughed “Hope you enjoy this,

I wrote it all myself!”

Then Hilary and Peter,

Sang a really sweet duet,

And by the time they’d finished,

Her eyes were jolly wet!

The fun and games continued,

But then at five past two,

Mr. Gates smiled “Please excuse me,

I’ve got one more thing to do!”

He disappeared in seconds,

Leaving everyone confused,

“What’s going on?” asked Rachel,

“I really am bemused!”

Just as she finished speaking,

Sweet  sleighbells filled the air,

She gasped “I don’t believe it,

That’s Santa Claus out there!”

Very soon her happy Classmates,

Discovered she was right,

The jolly man came bounding in,

His blue eyes shinning bright!

He beamed at all the children,

And then boomed “Ho! Ho! Ho!

My sack is full of presents,

For everyone, you know

If you will form a little queue,

Then I will give them out,

Because you’ve all been good this year,

Of that I have no doubt!”

The pupils all got up on stage,

As quickly as they could,

Then Santa gave them presents,

Just like he said he would.

Then when his sack was empty,

He grinned from ear to ear,

And laughed “Goodbye my little ones,

I’ll call again next year!”

He disappeared in seconds,

And the Children giggled “Hey,

We never thought we’d say this,

But school’s been fun today!”

“That’s good then,” answered Mr Gates,

Giving everyone a smile

“Please have a lovely Christmas,

And be happy all the while!”

“You too,” laughed all his pupils,

“You deserve it after all,”

Then feeling quite contented,

Everybody left the hall!

TTHE END.

For my friend Jack who inspired me to write in the first place!!
