Geronimo ran home from school,

As hungry as can be,

He puffed “I’m really starving,

I wonder what’s for tea.”

But when he reached the kitchen,

He fell into despair,

For as he looked around him,

His best friend wasn’t there.

“Oh bother!” grumbled Teddy,

“These girls are far too dizzy,

I think I’ll fry myself some chips,

That’s sure to keep me busy.”

Feeling very independent,

He stood upon the stool,

While grinning “This will teach her,

Not to treat me like a fool.”

He put some oil into the pan,

And then when that was done,

He giggled “They look yummy,

This is my idea of fun!”

But just as Bear had done this,

Mark knocked upon the door,

And squealed “I’m playing football,

What are you waiting for?”

“Oh really!” cried our silly Chum,

“That sounds a super plan,”

So he raced into the garden,

And forgot about the pan.

The game began in earnest,

Then they saw a puff of smoke,

Geronimo looked up at it,

And then at last he spoke.

“We’ve got to go indoors!” he yelled,

“The chip pan has caught fire,

We’d better take some action,

Before the flames get higher!”

“Do what?” his playmate shouted,

“You left the pan alone,

I really am astounded,

At the lack of care you’ve shown!”

“Let’s go into the kitchen,

Before the house burns down,

Or else you’ll pay a heavy price,

For acting like a clown!”

The worried pair then raced indoors,

As quickly as they could,

And then Mark switched the power off,

Just like you always should.

He removed the little chip pan,

And looked up at the wall,

While saying “Oh thank Heavens,

It’s not too bad at all.

Just grab hold of the nearest cloth,

And give this place a clean,

I really hope you realise,

How lucky you have been!”

“Of course I do,” Bear answered,

Going just a little red,

“Next time I fry myself some chips,

I’ll use my furry head!”

He then picked up a dish cloth,

And began to scrub like mad,

While saying “For your common sense,

I’m now extremely glad..”

“You really saved my bacon,

Of that I have no doubt,

I’ll always be so grateful,

That you came to sort me out!”

The pair continued cleaning,

Till the little kitchen shone,

Mark smiled “I can’t believe it,

The nasty stains have gone.”

“I know,” replied our Furry Friend,

“You’ve been so good to me,

I think we ought to celebrate,

And have a cup of tea!”

They were sipping their hot cuppas,

When little Jane came in,

“What have you two been up to?”

She asked them with a grin.

“Oh nothing,” lied Geronimo,

“In fact I’ve been just fine,

I’ve had a game of football,

With this cheeky friend of mine.

We’ve used a lot of energy,

And he can run no more,

But as he is just leaving,

I’ll show him to the door!”

However as he did this,

The small boy gave a grin,

“Remember now,” he whispered,

“That’s twice I’ve saved your skin.”

“I know,” replied the crafty Bear,

“I’ll help you out one day,”

And then he watched his playmate,

Go safely on his way!

THE END.
