Last Summer our Geronimo,

Adopted a small kitten,

And with the ginger fluff ball,

He’s very, very smitten.

As for lovely little Tibby,

Well he thinks the world of Bear,

And really likes to follow him,

Completely everywhere!

One morning very recently,

He followed him to school,

And didn’t seem to realise,

That it was against the rule.

Our Chum thought things were normal,

As he headed down the lane,

But then the cheeky kitten,

Made his presence felt again.

He started crying loudly,

As if to say "Don’t go,

It gets extremely boring,

Being on your own you know!"

Bear spun around in seconds,

And when he saw the cat,

He laughed "I’d love to take you,

But I really can’t do that!"

"If the teachers were to find you,

Then they would surely freak,

They’d probably expel me,

And my future would look bleak!"

In utter desperation,

A little stone he threw,

"Here, follow this," he muttered,

"It’s so much fun to do"

But Tibby didn’t listen,

To what his master said,

He just followed our Geronimo,

To infant school instead.

When they walked into the classroom,

The pupils all went "Arrh,

He’s such a clever kitten,

To have followed you this far!"

"He may be cute," sighed Teddy,

"But he’ll get me into trouble,

So for that very reason,

We should hide him at the double."

"We can’t do that!" cried Simon,

"He’s only very small,

So to hide him from the teachers,

Would not be fair at all!"

"Now give him here a minute,

As I’d like to hear him purr,

I also want to stroke him,

As he’s got such lovely fur!"

"Okay," Bear answered grimly,

"But be this on your head,

I think you should have listened,

To everything I said!"

He gave the cat to Simon,

And then what do you think?

The classroom door burst open,

Which really made him blink!

Mrs Kelsey walked right through it,

And when she saw the cat,

She shouted "Simon Morris!

What in heavens name is that?"

The little boy jumped backwards,

And Our chum sighed "Sorry Miss,

I think that I should tell you,

I’m responsible for this.

I realise bringing pets here,

Is quite against the rule,

But Tibby’s only little,

So he followed me to school."

"I did my best to send him home,

But he would not return,

It seems, that like your pupils,

He’s still got a lot to learn.

I’m hoping you’ll forgive me,

As there’s nothing I can do,

Although this big apology,

Is somewhat overdue!"

Then just as if to prove a point,

The cat gave her a lick,

As if to say "Don’t throw me out

I know what makes you tick!"

Mrs Kelsey was won over,

And smiled "I’ll let him stay,

Although this great concession,

Will last for just one day."

"Let’s take him in the garden,

And let him run around,

But you must keep an eye on him,

And see he’s safe and sound."

The class all gave a giant cheer,

And then they raced outside,

Then Tibby did his very best,

To keep them occupied.

When Paula wasn’t looking,

He tried to jump the fence,

"You scallywag!" she giggled,

"How could you be so dense?"

Then he jumped right through a window,

And clambered up the curtain,

"Good gracious me!" squealed Ricky,

"He’s lively that’s for certain!"

Soon the kitten had been rescued,

So our Chum gave him some milk,

And then he brushed his ginger coat,

Until it felt like silk,

The fun and games continued,

And then at five to three,

He yawned "We’d better get you home,

I’m tired as can be!"

"I still love you very dearly,

And think you are so cool,

But now I know the reason,

Why pets don’t go to school!"

THE END.
