One sunny Monday morning,

At twenty five to nine,

Geronimo arrived at school,

And everything seemed fine.

He planned to join the others,

Who were playing with a ball,

But then he spied a little boy,

Just standing by the wall.

"Oh dear," thought Bear, "He looks so sad,

I think he must be new,

I’d better go straight up to him,

And stop him feeling blue."

He went up to the little boy,

And asked him "What’s your name?

I’m sure you’d feel much better,

If you joined in with the game."

There was a moments silence,

And then his classmate spoke,

He sighed "I’ve g-got this st-stammer,

And it’s quite beyond a joke."

"I’d l-love a g-game of football,

But when they heard me speak,

It g-gave them all the b-biggest laugh,

That they had had all week!"

"My Christian name is Gareth,"

He went on to explain,

"I think the b-best thing I c-can do,

Is go straight home again."

"No don’t do that," smiled Teddy,

"You’ve got to stand your ground,

You must have got a talent,

We can use to bring them round!"

"Well yes I h-have," blushed Gareth,

"It’s a very funny thing,

But all my problems v-vanish,

Every time I start to sing!"

"You sing?" our kind Chum answered,

"That’s absolutely great,

Since everyone is busy,

You’ll have to demonstrate!"

"I c-can’t do that!" sighed Gareth.

"You see I’m much too shy,

I thank we’d better face the f-fact,

My chance has passed me by!"

"Oh go on," said Geronimo,

"Please let me hear you sing,

The others are all busy,

So they won’t hear a thing!"

"O-Okay," the small boy answered,

"But d-don’t expect t-too much,

I’m f-feeling very nervous,

So I could have l-lost my touch!"

He opened up his mouth and then,

A lovely song came out,

He had the most amazing voice,

Of that there was no doubt.

In no time whatsoever,

His sweet voice filled the air,

"We’re sorry." Said the boys and girls,

"It seems we’ve been unfair.

You may have got a stammer,

But you are clever too,

And now we’re feeling guilty,

That we ever doubted you!"

Loyal Teddy looked at all of them,

And then snapped "So you should,

He’s braver than the lot of you,

I want that understood."

"Oh don’t go on!" the children sighed,

"We’ve learnt our lesson now,

We want to sing a song with him,

Not cause a full blown row!"

"It’s all r-right now," smiled Gareth,

"I’m sure things w-will be fine,

I w-want them all to sing with me,

Because they’re friends of mine!"

The kindly Bear was nervous,

But before too very long,

They were joining their new playmate,

In a very jolly song.

Everyone continued singing,

Until they heard the bell,

And since that fateful meeting,

Gareth’s done extremely well.

THE END.
