Geronimo's Blunder.
Friend
Jane had gone out visiting,
So poor
Geronimo,
Was
sitting in the living room,
And
feeling very low.
He sank
down in the armchair,
And
sighed "I shouldn't moan,
But I
reckon she was rotten,
To
leave me all alone."
"She's
out there having lots of fun,
While I
am stuck indoors,
I wish
I had a hobby,
To
occupy my paws!"
But
then a rather cunning plan,
Popped
into Teddy's head,
"I've
got it now!" he shouted,
"I'll
go down to the shed!"
"Jane
keeps a lot of tins in there,
Filled
up with paint and glue,
I'm
sure that if I look around,
I'll
find something to do."
Our
furry Chum raced to the shed,
As
quickly as he could,
And
sitting in the corner,
Was a
chair made out of wood!"
"Oh
what a shame," he mumbled,
"That
Chair is very sweet,
I wish
that I could spruce it up,
And
make it look so neat!
Soon he
found a tin of varnish,
Which
was sitting on the floor,
Bear
giggled "This is marvellous,
Just
what I'm looking for!"

"On
this extra special project,
I just
cannot wait to start,
I'll
give my friend a present,
That
she'll love with all her heart."
Our
busy little hero,
Then
went into overdrive,
He
laughed "I'm really happy,
It's so
good to be alive."
As he
sanded down the Woodwork,
He
giggled; "What a doddle,
Whoever
said that this was hard,
Was
simply talking twaddle."
"I
needn't wear an apron,
Or
cover up the floor,
Because
I am an expert now,
Of that
I am quite sure."
When
the sanding down was over,
Teddy
giggled "That looks great!
To get
on with the varnishing,
I
simply cannot wait!"
He
grabbed hold of the nearest brush,
And
dunked it in the tin,
"Oh
this is tops!" he Chuckled,
"The
fun can now begin!"

When
the brush was really soaking,
He
slapped on the first coat,
It
looked really, really shiny,
So our
Chum began to gloat.
"That
looks really good," he giggled,
"So
some more coats I will add,
I've
found my true vocation,
And
that makes me proud and glad."
Geronimo smiled broadly,
As he
got on with his "work!"
He
didn't seem to notice,
His
brush go quite berserk!
But
after just a little while,
He
notice something strange,
The
clothes that he was wearing,
Had
undergone a change!

"That's
funny," murmured little Bear,
"These
trousers were once yellow,
But now
they're varnish coloured,
I'm
such a lucky fellow
I just
can't understand it,
As my
paws are sticky too,
The
floor is also soaking,
And I
don't know what to do!"
The
panic stricken Teddy,
Stood
gazing at the mess,
"I'd
better clear this up," he wailed,
"Or
I'll be under stress!"
But
when he put a paw down,
It
suddenly got wet,
"Oh
honestly!" he muttered,
"How
unlucky can you get!"
He
tried to scrub the varnish off,
But
that Just made things worse,
Big
marks began appearing,
Which
really made him curse!
"Will
someone help?" he shouted,
"I'm in
a dreadful state,
This
This
chaos has to be cleaned up,
Before
it is too late!"
"Oh
golly!" cried a kindly voice,
"This
place looks like a tip,
But I'm
free for half an hour,
So I'll
help you get a grip!"
Geronimo looked up to see,
His
clever neighbour Ken,
A man
with many talents,
Who
could put things right again.
Our
Hero was ecstatic,
And
grinned from ear to ear,
"Oh
hello mate!" he shouted,
"I'm
really glad you're here."
"I
tried to do this chair up,"
He
added with a sigh,
"But
unlike you I'm hopeless,
At
doing DIY!"
"Don't
worry," smiled his neighbour,
"You go
and have a wash,
And
when you come back out again,
I'll
have this looking posh!"
The
little Bear was doubtful,
But he
scuttled off indoors,
To do a
massive clean up job,
Upon
his sticky paws!
At last
he was all clean again,
And
went back to the shed,
"Oh Ken
I can't beli"Oh Ken
I can't believe my eyes,
It's
wonderful!" he said.
"The
shed looks neat and tidy,
And the
chair looks really great,
Which
proves I am so fortunate,
To have
you as a mate!"
"It's
nothing," smiled his Neighbour,
"'With
a twinkle in his eye,
"I
can't resist a challenge,
So I'm
glad that I came by!"
The
pair continued chatting,
And
then Friend Jane came in,
"What
have you two been up to?"
She
asked Bear with a grin.
"We've
been doing this old chair up,"
Explained Geronimo,
"I had
to pick Ken's brains because,
He's
marvHe's
marvellous you know!"
"I
realise that," Jane answered,
"It
seems you've both had fun,
And I
am so delighted,
With
the super job you've done!"
"Let's
carry it inside," she smiled,
"And
then I'll make some tea,
This is
the very nicest thing,
That
you have done for me!"
The two
friends exchanged glances,
Then
trotted up the path,
But
even now when Bear sits down,
He has
a secret laugh.
THE END.
