One summer our Geronimo,

Was staying with a friend,

They had some big adventures,

Which never seemed to end.

"I know," beamed Bear one afternoon,

"It’s nice and warm outside,

Why don’t we grab our bicycles,

And go out for a ride?"

"Okay you’re on," laughed Jamie,

"It’s very stuffy here,

I’ll get mine from the garage,

And then we’ll disappear."

Quite soon the cheeky duo,

Were riding down the lane,

"This is the life," laughed Teddy,

"I’m glad we’re free again!"

"Oh me too," answered Jamie,

"My sister is so sad,

She talks to plastic dollies,

Which proves she’s going mad!"

The two chums giggled loudly,

As they carried on their way,

They did outrageous wheelies,

And found new games to play!

But after a few hours,

Of happy rough and tumble,

The small boy cried "Oh golly,

Did you hear my belly rumble?"

"I did," replied Our Furry Friend,

"And mine is rumbling too,

Which is why it’s really easy,

To sympathise with you!"

"Right now some chips and burgers,

Would go down such a treat,

But we’re stuck here in the wilderness,

With nothing nice to eat!"

They walked around for ages,

Then Jamie squealed "Hey, look!

I think I’ve just found something,

That’ll get us off the hook!"

"Oh yes," squealed our Geronimo,

"Those berries are so sweet,

I reckon we should pick some,

They look good enough to eat!"

"You’re telling me!" replied his chum,

"Why don’t we make a start?

For when it comes to brainwaves,

We’re clearly set apart!"

Laughing very, very, loudly,

They got down on their knees,

Then they started picking berries,

In the gently blowing breeze.

"Oh golly," mumbled Jamie,

"These have such a tangy taste,

So we’ve got to make quite certain,

That not one will go to waste!"

"Don’t worry mate," Bear answered,

"These berries look so yummy,

So I do not need persuading,

To put some in my tummy!"

He put a handful in his mouth,

And then he sputtered "Wow,

They really taste amazing,

Why don’t you have some now?"

The little boy grinned broadly,

Before he followed suit,

"You’re absolutely right," he laughed,

"There’s nothing like fresh fruit!"

In no time whatever,

The berries had all gone,

"They filled a hole," smiled Teddy,

"We should be moving on!"

But when they’d walked a mile or so,

Poor Jamie was bent double,

"I hope we get home soon," he cried,

"Because I am in trouble.

My belly’s aching badly,

And I also feel so sickly,

There is no doubt about it,

We need to get home quickly!"

Our furry friend felt guilty,

But said; "You’ll be okay,

But it is very lucky,

That you don’t live far away!"

The pair then headed down the road,

As quickly as they could,

But the small boy still felt poorly,

So progress wasn’t good!

By the time they reached the little house,

Poor Bear felt queasy too,

He wailed "You’ve got to help us,

We don’t know what to do.

You see we ate some berries,

While exploring in the wood,

But now all of a sudden,

We don’t feel very good!"

"You silly boys!" cried Jamie’s Mum,

"Those berries are not ripe,

So it is not surprising,

That both of you have gripe!"

Then she hugged them very tightly,

And then smiled "Come with me,

I’ll give you both some medicine,

And then just fine you’ll be."

To everybody’s sheer relief,

Her prediction was proved right,

And the pair were so much wiser,

When they went to bed that night!

So the moral of this poem,

Is as simple as can be,

When exploring with your playmates,

Don’t eat berries from the tree!

THE END.
