One Saturday Geronimo,

Was itching for a lark,

So he put his lightest coat on,

And headed for the park.

“It’s such a lovely day,” he thought,

“I’m bound to  have a ball,

There’s lots of jolly pastimes,

For somebody so small!”

“I can jump aboard the roundabout,

Or even try the swings,

I really do appreciate,

The joy that springtime brings.”

When he reached his destination,

It was full as full can be,

But he heard somebody crying,

When he neared the tallest tree.

“Hello, who’s there?” Bear shouted,

“Please tell me what is wrong?

For on a sunny day like this,

You should be feeling strong!”

“Oh go away!” a small voice wailed,

“My name is Bashful Barry,

And you can not imagine,

The burdens that I carry!

“Because I keep on blushing,

Life is unfair to me,

And so my only option,

Is to hide behind this tree!”

When Teddy peered behind the oak,

He saw that it was true,

A boy was sitting on the grass,

Unsure of what to do.

Our chum sat down beside him,

And smiled “Things aren’t that bad,

To have a bit of fun with you,

Would make me very glad.”

“I know,” groaned Bashful Barry,

“But I am far too shy,

I’m pretty sure your playmates,

Would want to pass me by!”

“I moved her just a while ago,”

He went onto explain,

“And it is proving really hard,

For me to start again!”

With that he grabbed his hanky,

And then he sobbed “Boo hoo,

I’d love some jolly playmates,

But I’ll never be like you!”

“Oh come on,” soothed Geronimo,

“I hate to see you sad,”

“Besides,” He added gently,

“My friends are not that bad.

They’d make you very welcome,

Of that I am quite sure,

You’d quickly have the kind of fun,

That you are searching for!”

“Okay,” said Bashful Barry,

“I’ll come and meet them now,

But you must stand beside me,

In case there is a row!”

“There won’t be,” answered Teddy,

As he duly led the way,

“In seconds you’ll be happy,

And have new games to play.”

When at last they reached the others,

He called “Hi everyone,

“I’ve found a brand new playmate,

Who’s looking for some fun!”

“His name is Bashful Barry,

And he’s very, very shy,

But now he’s been  persuaded,

That this is worth a try!”

They children were delighted,

And rushed to say “Hello,”

And soon  the boy was swinging,

As high as he could go!

His shyness quickly vanished,

And he giggled “Oh what fun,

This is the very nicest thing,

That I have ever done!”

“Fantastic” laughed our Furry Friend,

“That’s very nice to hear,

The world will be your oyster.

Now you’ve overcome your fear!”

“I know it is,” grinned Barry,

As he kissed Lynne on the cheek,

“I’m really looking forward,

To coming back next week!”

THE END.
