One afternoon Geronimo,

Was riding home from school.

The sun was shining brightly,

And the wind was light and cool.

"I’m glad today is over,"

He murmured with a sigh,

"For from this point of vantage,

I can watch the world go by!"

However in a little while,

Della Duck came up the lane,

She quacked "It’s really, really nice,

To see you once again."

"I’ve just had six small ducklings,"

She added with a smile,

"They’re learning how to cross the road,

With elegance and style!"

Our furry friend grinned "So I see,

They’re very, very cute,

I’ll just get out their way because,

They do not know this route!"

As soon as he was able to,

He got off his new bike,

Never thinking for a minute,

Disaster would soon strike.

But as he stood still by the hedge,

A car came speeding past,

And the barmy fellow at the wheel,

Was driving much too fast.

"That’s William!" thought Teddy,

"He’s gone right off his head,

And if I don’t take some action,

My friends will end up dead!"

He dashed up to his bike and then,

Began to ring the bell,

While yelling "You’ve no sense at all,

As far as I can tell.

If you don’t slow down a little,

Those ducks will surely die,

That really is outrageous,

And quite appalled am I!"

But the radio was blaring,

So the driver didn’t hear,

He carried on his journey,

Without the slightest fear.

As he hurried up the narrow lane,

He laughed and laughed and laughed.

"Good heavens!" gasped Bear, horrified,

"He’s deaf as well as daft!"

"At times I can be wacky,

But I’m not as thick as him,

I’ve got to keep on trying,

Or the outcome will be grim!"

By now though silly William,

Was driving close to Della,

So Geronimo began to shout,

"Slow down you stupid fella!"

"If you carry on this madness,

These lovely ducks you’ll maim,

And then I’ll have to call you,

By a very nasty name!!"

When the driver just ignored him,

Which made him very cross,

He fumed "I’ve got to show this fool,

Exactly who is boss!"

Kind Teddy got his notebook out,

And took down the cars number.

"I’ve caught this joker now," he grinned,

"He’ll soon be in deep lumber!"

Then as soon as he had done this,

He went up to Policeman Pat,

Who told him reassuringly,

"I’ll put a stop to that."

He marched straight up to William,

And told him; "Slow down now,

For if you harm those lovely Ducks,

There’ll be an awful row.

They’ve every right to be here.

And cross the road in peace,

So if you don’t heed this warning,

My nagging will not cease!"

"Don’t worry," said the driver,

"I hear everything you say,"

And feeling very guilty,

He went slowly on his way.

Della Duck was quite delighted,

As were her ducklings too,

And as they waddled down the lane,

She quacked "I’m proud of you!"

"When you saw we were in trouble,

You took the swiftest action,

And it’s down to you entirely,

That we now have satisfaction!"

"Oh that’s all right," our Chum replied,

"I only stood my ground,

And it gives me lots of pleasure,

To know you’re safe and sound!"

She and her little family,

Then hurried out of sight,

"I think," smiled our Geronimo,

"Their future will be bright!"

"Oh I agree," Pat answered,

"But what Della said was true,

I wish that all the public,

Were as sensible as you!"

THE END.
