The sun was shining brightly,

So Geronimo the Bear,

Decided to eat breakfast,

In the early morning air.

As soon as he was able to,

He settled down to eat,

While grinning "Oh my goodness,

What an unexpected treat!"

But after just a little while,

Our Chum heard someone whining,

And realised that the dog next door,

Was well and truly pining!

"Oh no," he muttered to himself,

"Star must be all alone,

I’ll go and pacify him,

As he hates it on his own!"

When he’d finished off his breakfast,

Bear hurried to next door,

And then he asked the barking dog,

"What’s all this racket for?"

"That’s simple," whined the animal,

"Dave’s just gone off to work,

And being here all by myself,

Is driving me berserk."

"I may not be a human,

But I need some company,

If someone took me for a run,

So happy I would be!"

"Don’t worry," came the quick reply,

"Friend Jane has gone out too,

So I’m in a position,

To make your dream come true!"

Lonely Star was quite delighted,

And pricked up both his ears,

He barked ; "Your generous offer,

Is the best I’ve had in years.

I’m really glad you came here,

As you’ve brightened up my day,

But let’s stop all this chatting,

And hurry out to play!"

He jumped up very quickly,

And raced towards the door,

"Hey steady on," puffed Teddy,

"Or you’ll have me on the floor."

The cheeky dog looked at him,

With mischief in his eyes,

And barked "I’m just a puppy,

Who’s short on exercise!"

In the twinkling of an eyelid,

They’d reached the open field,

Where some wonderful surprises,

Were soon to be revealed.

Geronimo took off Star’s lead,

And let him run around,

But then he shouted "Come here boy,

Just look at what I’ve found."

At first the dog ignored him,

But then he saw a ball,

And thought "To miss a jolly game like this,

Would not be fair at all!"

He bounded over to the Bear,

As quickly as he could,

"From now on," he barked loudly,

"I’ll be extremely good."

"I doubt it," chuckled Teddy,

"Now fetch this if you can,

You’ve got to run like lightening,

Then things will go to plan!"

"I realise that!" Star answered,

"I’ve played this game before,

Now kindly get things going,

Or else I’ll start to snore!"

Our Hero threw the football,

High up into the air,

While Star went racing after it,

With lots of time to spare!

"That was brilliant!" he chuckled,

"All my efforts weren’t in vain,

"I’d get even more excited,

If we did it all again!"

"Okay then!" laughed Geronimo,

"I think you’re raving mad,

But I’m glad our little outing,

Has stopped you feeling sad!"

The fun and games continued,

For several hours more,

Then he shouted "Oh good heavens,

It’s twenty five to four."

"If Dave finds out you’re missing,

So worried he will be,

We’d better get you home again,

In time to have your tea."

"Oh that’s a shame!" Star whimpered,

"I’ve enjoyed my lengthy run,

In fact I can’t remember,

When I last had this much fun!"

"I bet you can’t," laughed Teddy,

"You passed your fitness test,

But I have been run ragged,

So now I need my rest!"

They smiled at one another,

Then walked on up the lane,

But very, very often,

They come out to play again!

THE END.
